An early-career volunteer role supporting the work of The Lab’s Founder and helping to shape global sustainability impact, with potential for paid transition.
The Sustainability Laboratory is seeking a volunteer Executive Support & Projects Associate to work closely with Lab Founder Dr. Michael Ben-Eli and collaborate with Lab project managers as needed. The Associate provides high-trust assistance by helping draft Lab materials, driving timely follow-through, and supporting priority Lab initiatives and programs as needed.
This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career professional to work directly with one of the pioneers in sustainable development. The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainability issues and possesses outstanding writing and editorial skills, clear communication abilities, excellent judgment and discretion, and exemplary organizational instincts—able to move fluidly between strategic thinking and practical follow-through. Candidate is a proactive self-starter who can manage multiple workstreams with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.
Schedule is flexible and may be part-time; occasional travel may be possible depending on project needs. The Lab seeks a minimum one-year commitment, with potential for a paid transition based on performance and organizational need.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Core responsibilities are listed below. Exact priorities may shift based on needs and active Lab initiatives.
- Day to Day Founder Support: Track priorities and action items; draft, polish, and organize materials (briefs, memos, correspondence, talking points).
- Writing & Editing: Produce clear, accurate, audience-appropriate writing with minimal oversight; edit for structure, logic, tone, and precision; occasional support through grant writing.
- Research & Synthesis: Conduct topical research; synthesize findings into concise summaries and recommendations.
- Presentations & Visual Communication: Build polished slide decks and simple visuals to support internal planning and external engagement, including some social media.
- Initiative/Project Coordination as needed: Coordinate inputs/updates across project teams and partners; compile materials for reports and proposals; maintain organized documentation.
- Light Operations/Administration: Scheduling, logistics, and other practical support as needed to keep priorities moving (not the primary focus of the role).
Qualifications & Characteristics
- At minimum, a bachelor’s degree that relates to environment, economic, or other sustainability-related topics.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information and represent leadership professionally.
- Superior command of grammar, structure, and narrative clarity.
- Strong attention to detail; reliable follow-through; can manage multiple threads without dropping work.
- Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable operating with ambiguity.
- Strong competence in MS Office/Google Workspace, especially Word and PowerPoint.
- Able to engage thoughtfully with complex sustainability concepts and mission-driven development.
- A happy, positive disposition and communication style.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit, research, policy, or mission-driven organizations.
- Evidence of high-quality writing/editing output (portfolio, writing sample, or published work).
