Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit organization serving children and youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, educational enrichment, workforce development, creative opportunity, advocacy, housing innovation, and community-centered support.

About PromiseVoice
PromiseVoice is MAP's journalism, publishing, communications, newsletter, editorial, and public storytelling division.
The division serves as the organization's publishing and media engine, producing articles, newsletters, digital publications, community stories, thought leadership, educational resources, and mission-driven content that informs, engages, and inspires audiences.
PromiseVoice helps ensure that the voices of children, families, volunteers, educators, advocates, and communities remain at the center of MAP's storytelling ecosystem.
Role Overview
The Director of Digital Publishing serves as the leader responsible for the strategy, management, distribution, growth, and optimization of MAP's digital publishing ecosystem.
This role oversees the systems, platforms, workflows, and audience-development strategies that support the publication and distribution of articles, newsletters, digital magazines, blogs, reports, educational resources, thought leadership content, and emerging digital media initiatives.
Working closely with editorial leaders, writers, journalists, designers, marketers, and technology teams, the Director helps ensure that MAP's content reaches the right audiences while maintaining excellence in accessibility, quality, discoverability, and reader experience.
The Director plays a critical role in transforming content into community engagement, thought leadership, mission awareness, and organizational impact.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Publishing Strategy
- Develop and lead MAP's digital publishing strategy
- Establish long-term goals for audience growth and engagement
- Identify opportunities to expand digital publishing initiatives
- Build scalable publishing systems and workflows
- Align publishing efforts with organizational priorities and audience needs
Editorial Distribution & Audience Growth
- Oversee distribution of articles, newsletters, reports, and digital publications
- Expand readership across multiple digital channels
- Develop audience acquisition and retention strategies
- Strengthen subscriber growth and reader engagement
- Support long-term audience development initiatives
Publishing Operations
- Manage publishing calendars, release schedules, and distribution workflows
- Develop operational standards for digital publishing
- Coordinate publication timelines across editorial teams
- Improve publishing efficiency and quality assurance processes
- Maintain publishing consistency across platforms
Newsletter & Content Distribution
- Support publication and distribution of organizational newsletters
- Strengthen email audience engagement strategies
- Improve content discoverability and subscriber experiences
- Monitor newsletter performance and growth metrics
- Optimize content delivery channels
Platform Management & Digital Experience
- Oversee publishing platforms and content management systems
- Partner with technology and UX teams to improve reader experiences
- Ensure accessibility and usability standards are maintained
- Strengthen content discoverability and search optimization
- Promote inclusive and user-centered publishing practices
Analytics & Performance Management
- Establish digital publishing KPIs and reporting frameworks
- Monitor readership, engagement, subscriber growth, and content performance
- Analyze audience behavior and content trends
- Develop recommendations for continuous improvement
- Promote data-informed publishing decisions
Cross-Divisional Collaboration
- Partner with PromiseBrands on audience development and promotion
- Collaborate with PromiseStudios on multimedia storytelling initiatives
- Support PromisePublic through advocacy and public-awareness publishing efforts
- Work closely with leadership to amplify organizational priorities
- Strengthen integration between publishing, communications, and community engagement efforts
