Overview of the Community Foundation

The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region (CFNCR) was established in 1973 to strengthen the Washington metropolitan region by encouraging and supporting effective giving and by providing leadership on critical issues in our community. The Foundation is a community of givers working to strengthen the Washington region. The Foundation houses charitable giving funds established by individuals, families and businesses in our region, providing the trusted services and community knowledge to help donors make the difference they want to make. The Foundation also plays a leadership role by addressing critical issues, bringing people and resources together to create measurable, lasting change. The Community Foundation has assets of approximately $365 million, over 800 component funds and awards some $60 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in the region. The Foundation has two regional offices ‐ The Community Foundation in Prince George’s County and the Community Foundation in Montgomery County.
