Batahola Norte Cultural Center

Nicaragua

Acerca de

Founded in 1983 by Sr. Margie Navarro, CSJ of Cincinnati and Father Ángel Torrellas, OP of Spain, the mission of the Batahola Norte Cultural Center is to “live a style of life which is more congenial and just, according to the gospels and directed towards the poor. Through our culture and an integral education, we promote human rights, self-esteem and equality. We believe in the empowerment of the person and the value of sharing what we are and have in order to transform this society into the Kingdom of God".

Over 500 people, with a special focus on women and young people, are involved in the Center’s programs which include courses in basic adult education, natural medicine, computer, cosmetology, sewing, voice, musical instruments, dance, theater, accounting and art. Many of the students in these programs are provided with scholarships through the Center itself for these classes and for primary, secondary and university studies. The Centro Cultural houses a library of over 4,000 books that is open to the community. A central part of the life of the Center occurs in the chapel, including a weekly Catholic mass at which the Center’s choir and orchestra play.
