Wokai- DC Chapter

Wokai is commited to alleviating poverty in China, one person at a time. More than 300 million Chinese live on less than $1 a day. Rather than simply give handouts, we are committed to helping them lift themselves out of poverty through microloans. By giving as little as $10 or $20, you will help these impoverished Chinese grow and sustain small businesses such as food stands, corner grocery shops or shoe-repair stores. These are real entrepreneurs that you can make a direct impact on. We are also dedicated to showing you exactly how you are making an impact. Wokai means “I start (enterprises)” in Chinese, and we hope you will start by connecting with these entrepreneurs through our website. Working with reputable field partners in China, we distribute your contributions to impoverished entrepreneurs throughout rural parts of the country. We rely on fundraising events, grants, corporate sponsorships and individual donors for funding. Wokai is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
