Position Summary
The Accounting Consultant is an accounting expert, driving client engagements focused on project accounting, financial clean-up, and strategic operational improvement. This role involves conducting deep-dive discovery and assessments of client accounting functions, systems, and needs, then formulating and presenting strategic recommendations. The Consultant designs and implements detailed workplans and policies to achieve the proposed improvements. The role operates independently, applying well-developed knowledge and coordinating projects with firm timelines and budgets for Fohrman & Fohrman’s nonprofit clients.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Lead project accounting engagements, especially those involving discovery, financial cleanup, and strategic process improvements.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of client accounting systems, workflows, policies, and the General Ledger for accuracy and completeness.
- Develop and present strategic recommendations to clients and stakeholders, focusing on:
- QuickBooks/Chart of Accounts cleanup and optimization.
- Streamlining procedures, improving internal controls, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit GAAP and audit preparedness.
- Design and implement detailed workplans, policies, and procedures to successfully execute agreed-upon recommendations.
- Coordinate all project activities, manage timelines, and maintain proactive communication with clients, executive management, and co-workers.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or commensurate work experience
- Well-developed knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit finance
- Proven history of leading successful accounting cleanup projects
- Proficient in QuickBooks and Excel
- Highly proficient with various accounting, business, and productivity software; able to quickly learn new systems
- Excellent time management, communication, and customer service skills
- Calm and professional manner
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of time
- Demonstrated ability to meet job expectations with minimal instruction or assistance
- Demonstrated understanding of Fohrman & Fohrman’s operating policies and procedures
