The Accounting Manager leads all day-to-day finance operations for a portfolio of nonprofit clients, including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration. This role supervises finance staff, supports new client implementations, and ensures existing clients maintain strong systems, internal controls, and financial processes that support effective program execution and successful audits.

Key Functions & Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and grants administration.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close, including reconciliations, proper AP/AR cutoff, payroll compliance, and 1099 reporting.
- Ensure all financial reporting complies with GAAP and nonprofit regulatory requirements.
- Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and present results to leadership.
- Conduct financial analysis, variance reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
Revenue Recognition, Allocations & Grants
- Ensure compliance with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
- Design and oversee cost allocation methodologies across programs and funding sources.
- Manage grant accounting, restricted and unrestricted funds, and donor compliance requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls over revenue, expenditures, and program budgets.
Audit & Compliance
- Lead annual audit preparation and serve as liaison to external auditors.
- Prepare complete audit packages and strengthen financial policies and internal controls.
Systems & Process Optimization
- Utilize Sage Intacct (including dimensional reporting and allocations); lead or support system implementations and optimization initiatives.
- Maintain proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
- Drive workflow improvements, automation, and system transitions.
Leadership & Client Management
- Supervise and mentor finance staff.
- Support Senior Accountants as needed.
- Build strong client relationships and manage multiple engagements while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
- CPA preferred but not required.
Experience
- 6–10 years of nonprofit accounting experience required.
- 2–5 years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Annual budgeting processes
- Managing multiple grants
- Coordinating and leading audit activities
- ASC 606 revenue recognition
- Cost allocation methodologies
- Sage Intacct (daily use and implementation experience)
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Sage Intacct, including reporting and dimensional accounting.
- Experience leading or supporting ERP implementations (Sage Intacct strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (frequently used formulas, pivot tables, financial modeling).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
