    Mixteca Organization Inc. is a 501(C)3 organization founded in 2000 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, which seeks to support sustainable livelihoods for Spanish-speaking immigrants, regardless of status. Mixteca provides free and culturally-sensitive programming to respond to the host of critical health, educational and immigration needs for Spanish-speaking families in Brooklyn and the broader NYC metropolitan area.

    At Mixteca, we are building a more just society by strengthening the migrant community. The Director of Development is a pivotal member of the leadership team, driving all aspects of fundraising to support and sustain organizational growth. This senior role requires an experienced professional with a strong track record in securing funds from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals. The Director of Development will also play a critical role in strategic planning, donor cultivation, and fundraising events, ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization.

    This role reports directly into the Managing Director, Impact & Advancement.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Fundraising Leadership and Strategy

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-tiered fundraising strategy to secure funding from diverse revenue streams.
    • Set ambitious yet attainable financial goals and track progress through clear metrics and reporting.
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with government agencies, institutional funders, corporate partners, and major donors.

    Donor Cultivation and Stewardship

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective donors.
    • Lead efforts to secure major gifts, planned giving commitments, and long-term donor partnerships.
    • Develop and implement donor recognition and stewardship programs, fostering a culture of gratitude and transparency.
    • Develop and manage individual donor fundraising campaigns, including crowdfunding, direct mail, prospecting and other tactics to expand Mixteca’s base of individual donors and other revenue sources.
    • Represent the organization to donors, stakeholders, and at public events, articulating its vision and impact.

    Grant Development and Management

    • Identify grant opportunities and oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals, along with other Development staff and/or consultants.
    • Develop relationships with grantmaking organizations and maintain a calendar of grant deadlines.
    • Oversee coordination and implementation of special events, including but not limited to, gala events, house parties and other related activities
    • Manage grant compliance and reporting, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
    • Develop and implement strategies to broaden support for the ecosystem of groups needed to advance Mixteca’s overall goals, with particular focus on increased philanthropic support for grassroots community organizing.
    • Oversight and management of systems and processes for effective identification, tracking, and engagement with donors and prospects, including prospecting, data management, acknowledgments, and ongoing communication with individual prospects, donors, institutional funders and other key partners.

    Fundraising Events and Campaigns

    • Conceptualize and execute signature fundraising events, leveraging these to strengthen donor relationships.
    • Innovate creative individual giving campaigns, including peer-to-peer fundraising, direct mail, and digital appeals.

    Communications and Advocacy

    • In coordination with the Leadership Team, represent Mixteca at external meetings and events, as requested, to advance priorities.
    • Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to support fundraising efforts.
    • Oversee the creation of fundraising materials, including newsletters, annual reports, and social media content.
    • Represent the organization at public events, networking opportunities, and speaking engagements.

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years leading and managing multi-tiered successful fundraising campaigns and efforts, including strong experience with government, corporate and individual fundraising.
    • Demonstrated success at raising funds from a mix of individuals, events, appeals, and foundations, including success at cultivating, soliciting, and securing small gifts and larger gifts levels.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in developing and executing fundraising strategies.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, ethics, and regulations.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish, with exceptional attention to details, including ability and track record of writing well, quickly, and within deadlines.
    • Strong track record with budget development and monitoring.
    • Proficient in various database programs, fundraising platforms, and social media platforms (Salesforce and Asana preferred).
    • Experience working with diverse socio-economic groups.
    • Bilingual: proficiency in English and Spanish preferred (not required).

    Working Conditions:

    This is a full-time position based in our organization's office, located in an open space. Occasional off-site work, such as attending community events or meetings, may be required. Some evening or weekend work may also be necessary, depending on the organization's activities and events.

    Compensation

    Salary range: $95,000 to $115,000 commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
