Evening Access Services Coordinator
Job Description
The Evening Access Services Coordinator ensures the efficient operation of the library during evening hours to support the Colleges mission of providing students with uninterrupted access to academic resources. Working closely with the Access Services Supervisor, this position monitors student workers, oversees circulation desk activities, and ensures the safe operation of the library. The role requires managing library inquiries, troubleshooting systems, and serving as the first point of contact during emergencies or urgent situations that occur outside of regular College business hours.
Essential Duties Summary
Essential Functions
- Supervise student workers during shifts, ensuring circulation desk operations, including lending and returns, run smoothly.
- Manage and troubleshoot the Integrated Library System to ensure patron accounts are up-to-date.
- Oversee the closing of the library building during assigned shifts, ensuring security and orderly shutdowns.
- Provide hands-on support to cover student worker absences to maintain continuity of library operations.
- Address patron inquiries related to Access Services and serve as a resource for general library services.
- Collaborate with the Access Services Supervisor to assign and monitor student worker tasks.
- Troubleshoot printers and other library technology to minimize service disruptions.
- Participate in building maintenance by processing work orders for non-urgent issues.
- Respond to emergencies, coordinating with campus safety or emergency services as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with course reserves, working with faculty and the Head of Technical Services to provide digital and physical media access.
- Attend weekly staff meetings as part of the Access Services team.
- Monitor the status of library-related programs, such as the Colleges collaborative turtle care initiative.
- Support library social media efforts, contributing to the creation and scheduling of posts to promote events and service hours.
- Maintain printer supplies and oversee regular stock management.
- Promote awareness of changes to library hours through signage and digital updates.
- Coordinate with other library departments, including Interlibrary Loan services, to facilitate smooth service delivery.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
- Moderately sedentary, involving periods of sitting and computer use.
- Frequent verbal and written communication required.
- Capacity to organize and synthesize detailed information.
- Frequent walking/standing/lifting/handling of library materials required.
Required QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in an academic library or other customer service environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies.
