    Department: Interdepartmental: Field Department/Racial Justice Center

    Terms of Employment: Full-Time/Exempt/Union 2320 Position (NYCLU staff is currently working in a hybrid model; 8 days per month in-person days will be required)

    Location: Central New York Regional Office

    Salary: $55,000 - $65,000

    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

    The NYCLU seeks an experienced, innovative, and dynamic Organizer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced organization and can skillfully design, implement and/or support the NYCLU approaches to a broad docket of civil rights and civil liberties issues. The CNY Organizer is an equally shared interdepartmental position that reports to the Assistant Director of the Field Department and the Director of the Racial Justice Center. The CNY Organizer accomplishes a varied range of tasks to support the NYCLU's mission and strategic priorities and as part of the NYCLU's interdisciplinary approach to culture change.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A demonstrated commitment to working with key stakeholders, coalition and community partners.
    • A demonstrated ability to effectively manage a campaign, project or related efforts.
    • A demonstrated commitment to the goals and priorities of the NYCLU or other related public service.
    • Self-motivation and an ability to work collaboratively.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills.
    • A bachelor's degree is preferred or 3 years of experience in a similar or related field.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plays an integral role in supporting the organizing needs under the direction of the Racial Justice Center and Field Department.
    • Build relationships with grassroots groups, communities, advocacy organizations, and government agencies.
    • Convening public education and organizing events, such as rallies, community forums, lobby visits.
    • Participating in public discourse by testifying at public hearings, community events, news conferences and media.
    • Contributes to the development of public education materials and workshops, including contributing to and/or editing blogs, public letters, reports.
    • Contribute to the administrative management of the Central New York Regional office.
    • Implement and lead a volunteer engagement program.
    • Actively support the NYCLU's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Additional responsibilities will be required of Senior Organizers, including but not limited to advising other staff on organizing strategies and supporting administrative management.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    This is an interdepartmental position, with 50% dedicated to the Field department that focuses on statewide NYCLU priority issues and 50% of your time will be allocated to the priority issues for the Racial Justice Center. Most work is performed during normal business hours but may require evening and weekends, some travel within New York State is required.
