    Budget and Finance Manager

    Resilient Strategies LLC (RS)

    Resilient Strategies LLC is an organization that provides the backend finance, administrative, and HR service functions for our Network Partners. Resilient Strategies is a growing organization that currently supports multiple organizations working across strategies that include community organizing, direct service, policy advocacy and capacity building.

    Position Overview

    Resilient Strategies seeks a dynamic, resourceful, Budget and Finance Manager to join our innovative team. The Budget Coordinator is a service-oriented, systems thinker able to lead and manage cross-cutting projects and workflows across different departments and teams. This is a full-time and remote position.

    The Budget and Finance Manager helps to carry out the day-to-day budget operations support services that Resilient Strategies provides to multiple nonprofit organizations across the country. This position involves coordinating across teams and departments within Resilient Strategies to support our partners in the timely and successful creation of organizational and project budgets, reconcile revenue and expense actuals, and coach staff on budget management strategies. The role will offer opportunities to lead projects to develop solutions to larger challenges that our Network Partners face as they manage organizations and projects funded by individual, government, and foundation sources, and as Resilient Strategies grows as a nonprofit service organization. This could involve work around systems design, technology, finance, and human resources management.

    This position is full-time and remote, with expected travel 2-4times each year to the Bay Area for retreats and meetings. In all duties and responsibilities, this position exercises discretion and independent judgment. The position will report to the Finance Director at Resilient Strategies.

    Essential Responsibilities

    1. Budget Management
      • Manage the organizational budgets of core entities of the Resilient Strategies Network, including Resilient Strategies LLC, Chinese Progressive Association, Center for Empowered Politics Education Fund, Center for Empowered Politics and Everyday People PAC.
      • Supports RSN core entity leadership and Boards of Directors to present budgets and other financial planning documents at Board meetings and other staff financial planning meetings
      • Supports RS Network Partners to manage and maintain sound internal budgeting systems that can integrate with the Resilient Strategies LLC financial systems to ensure accurate revenue and expense tracking, financial reporting, and long term financial planning.
      • Provides skilled capacity-building support and coaching to RS Network Partner staff around budgeting and financial management best practices, supports the refining of existing systems and the development of new systems and tools around budgeting, expense tracking and financial planning
      • Support overall systems design and maintenance, ensuring that tools and processes are kept current and functioning.
      • Provide budgeting support to grant proposals, donation requests, government contract requests for proposals
      • Maintain regular communication with Network Partner directors and staff about the status of financial management projects, and policy/procedure changes.
    2. Income Processing (35%)
    • Lead the income processing team, ensuring that team members, systems and processes are working effectively and efficiently.
    • Help deposit, allocate and document Network Partner income from multiple sources
    • Maintain and update income tracking and reconciliation systems in partnership with other team members.
    • Liaise with Network Partners to address questions about income allocation and tracking
    • Manage intra-team communication and accountability
    1. General Administrative Duties (10%)
      • Supports the Resilient Strategies through interdepartmental working groups and initiatives
      • Supports Network Partners and other Resilient Strategies Departments with administrative support on an as-needed basis

    Essential Qualifications

    As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of CEP, CEPEF and Resilient Strategies and be driven by the mission. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change. Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate that has experience in a fast paced environment with an orientation to create impact for the team and projects we support.

    Additional requirements are:

    • At least 3 years experience with administrative work including thorough experience with a wide range of business functions and systems
    • 3-4 years of experience with nonprofit financial management
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: must be able to communicate confidently and effectively with project team members and across departments and teams
    • Computer literacy with Mac OS, Google Suite/Apps, MS Word, MS Excel, and other basic software applications
    • Strong data handling skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to successfully manage multiple requests and competing deadlines
    • Ability to process large volumes of email inquiries on a daily basis
    • Ability to learn new platforms easily and manage multiple sources of data
    • Willingness to work collaboratively, but with the capacity to work independently
    • Interest in working in a client service capacity

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1-2 years of experience in nonprofit administrative support capacities, logistics, finance, or organizational support
    • 1-2 years of experience with data-tracking software and data information systems
    • Basic knowledge of project management framework and experience using project management tools a plus (for example: Asana, Trello, Monday, Airtable)
    • Experience working with basebuilding and organizing groups
    • Experience with coaching, training or capacity building

    Work Environment

    • This position will begin as remote with the opportunity to transition to in-person at the Oakland office. Offices are shared among employees.

    Physical Demands

    • Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.
    • Able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
    • Able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in person and be understood by others.
    • Able to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
    • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

    Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 FTE depending on experience and qualifications. Resilient Strategies provides competitive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision) and substantial vacation days and paid time off.
