California Coastal Camping Adventure: Lead the Journey!
Join Global Leadership Adventures for a California Summer Like No Other.
Are you ready to swap the fluorescent lights for Redwood canopies? We are looking for Program Directors and Mentors to lead our California Coastal Camping Adventure. This isn't just a camping trip; it’s a mission to get students outside as you teach them to find "comfort in the discomfort" and support them to discover their inner leaders.
The Role: Part Guide, Part Mentor, All Adventure
- Mentor the Next Generation: You’ll be the "boots on the ground," teaching first-time campers how to pitch a tent, master a campfire, and cook outdoor meals.
- Lead the Way: Facilitate small-group discussions that help students process their experiences, from hiking the foggy coast to exploring the vibrant streets of San Francisco.
- The "Captain" of the Van: You’ll navigate 7-8 passenger vans through iconic urban landscapes and winding coastal roads.
Why You’ll Love It
- Competitive Pay: Directors earn a weekly rate of $700 – $900 based on experience, Mentors earn a weekly rate of $500-$700 depending on experience. All staff regardless of role earn an additional $100 for completing roughly 6 hours of online learning modules.
- Everything’s Covered: We provide all your meals and lodging (campsites + hotel), camping gear, and travel to the program site.
Professional Growth: Gain hands-on experience in risk management, leadership curriculum, and youth mentorship.
Who You Are
- Experienced Pro: You have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and at least two years of experience working with students ranging from 11 - 18.
- Trail Leader: You have high physical stamina, and you love and appreciate being outside, no matter the weather!
- Risk Manager: You hold a current in-person CPR/First Aid cert, you’re over 25 with a clean US driver's license, are authorized to work in the United States and have U.S insurance.
- Vibe-Setter: You’re flexible, collaborative, and have a natural knack for motivating a group of teens.
- Problem Solving Expert: You’re solution oriented and can work collaboratively as part of a team to solve any challenge that comes your way. Your vibe: “It’s raining! No problem, we’ll figure it out”.
Hiring & Screening Process
- Application Review: We review resumes and cover letters for relevant experience and license requirements.
- Interviews: Selected candidates will participate in 2-3 rounds of Zoom interviews.
- References & Background: We will contact professional references and conduct a thorough background check.
- Onboarding: Once cleared, staff begin online training modules prior to the summer session.
Positions Available
- Program Director. The Director is the "North Star" of the program, ensuring the team stays on track and every student is safe and engaged.
- The Mission: Manage the staff team, oversee all program logistics, and ensure the leadership curriculum is delivered.
- The Focus: You are the primary point of contact for headquarters and parents, handling everything from daily schedules to meal plans and camping transitions.
- Safety First: You hold oversight and responsibility for student health, safety, and group discipline.
- Preference given to Spanish speakers and those living locally
- Mentor. Mentors are the heartbeat of the student experience, working directly alongside participants to make magic happen.
- The Mission: Actively participate in every hike, campfire, and excursion while supporting students through their first-time camping jitters.
- The Focus: Facilitate small-group discussions and reflections to help students process their growth.
