American Red Cross Sound The Alarm Event

We are excited to invite you to participate in a meaningful community service opportunity hosted by the American Red Cross.

The Sound the Alarm initiative will take place in District 7 at the Joe Ward Community Center in Bexar County on Saturday, March 28, 2026. This event will bring together hundreds of dedicated volunteers to install free smoke alarms in homes across the surrounding community—helping to safeguard families and save lives. We are also pleased to offer a community resource fair in conjunction with the event, welcoming community members and attendees to connect with local organizations and available resources.

Our goal is to recruit 300 volunteers to support smoke alarm installations in the neighborhoods surrounding the Joe Ward Community Center. Your participation will play a vital role in improving home fire safety and strengthening the resilience of our community.

What to Expect:

• The American Red Cross will provide lunch, installation tools, and on-site training for all registered volunteers.
• Volunteers will be assigned to teams of three:
  • One Smoke Alarm Installer
  • Two Home Visit Team Educators, who will share home fire safety information and evacuation planning guidance with residents.
• Each home visit is expected to take approximately 15 minutes.
