“ElFEST” is a place-making annual bilingual Latin@ Heritage Month Literary event featuring readings, activities, and performances. Admission is free to school children and adults. El Festival occurs during the week of Indigenous People's Weekend & Hispanic Heritage Month. Leading up to the annual celebration are the Triology of Art (TOA) activities hosted throughout the Spanish (East) Harlem venues. Live musical accompaniment, Open Mic, and audience participation are part of the package. They build momentum, feature various opportunity to have walking tours of local heritage sites, resources, and entertainment venues.
The full richness of bilingual heritages is on display for early childhood, grade school, and youth, adults & senior audiences. Children will have a chance to participate in workshops & one-on-one sessions designed to help them improve their writing & bilingual skills. Students will also be entertained with interactive readings, Q&A, meet & greet sessions, and workshops, conducted by experienced writers, includes creative writing & hip-hop. Adults & seniors will partake in interactive sessions. Everyone has the opportunity to join in our Open Mic portion and buy books for themselves, family and friends. La Fortaleza' Speakers' Bureau provides writers for in-school appearances, extended workshops, and speaking.
El Festival takes place at the East Harlem Children's Aids Society, the East Harlem Bilingual Program, El Barrio's ArtSpace P.S. 109, and the Bronx Library Center. Activities include writing workshops (creative, hip-hop, and memior writing), open mic, & readings. The event has a dedicated children's story corner, and TOA (Triology of Arts) musical accompaniment allows for audience participation.
The event is multi-purposed. It dispels the notion that Latin Americans are a literary group. ElFEST promotes Latin@ writers (published & not) & literary organizations. It also encourages youth to maintain their bilingual heritage & assists them in using the creative art of writing to express themselves & their thoughts. Admission is open to the public and offers sponsors multi-platform visibility and marketing through our print, electronic, and social media platforms.

Lexington Avenue IRT local train to East 116th Street (Lexington Avenue). Either walk East to Pleasant Avenue or take the M116 bus to First Avenue & wlak to PLeasant Ave, one block.

Authors, organizations, and sponsors can have an assistant at their table, marketing materirals, and books. YOu can have backdrops, table cloth covers, and give away items.
