IUFD is staffed with a team of prosecutors, financial investigators, and administrative and other staff, partnered with Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office, local, state, and federal investigative and enforcement agencies, and victim witness advocates charged with investigating and prosecuting complex insurance and unemployment fraud cases, including violations of M.G.L. c. 152, M.G.L. c. 151A, and M.G.L. c. 175H, and other illegal activity, such as larceny, conspiracy, and money laundering.

The Assistant Attorneys General in IUFD are charged with leading and coordinating efforts of the prosecutorial team that typically includes a financial investigator, a state trooper, a victim/witness advocate, and support staff. The work involves extensive collaboration with law enforcement agencies and outside agencies, including the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) and the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts (IFB). The work also involves grand jury investigations throughout the Commonwealth, complex motion practice, and frequent appearances before the Commonwealth’s District and Superior Courts for motions, pleas, and trials.

    Position Requirements:

    • Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar.
    • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of full-time legal experience, including significant experience as a prosecutor or defense attorney, preferred.
    • Experience in white collar litigation, insurance/unemployment law or other complex criminal litigation is considered a plus.
    • Ability to develop and oversee highly complex, challenging, and sensitive criminal investigations, present matters to the grand jury, and handle resulting prosecutions from arraignment through conclusion, including motions and trials.
    • Ability to assist in researching complex legal issues impacting the work of the division.
    • Ability and desire to handle multiple complex and challenging priority matters simultaneously.
    • Outstanding research, writing, and advocacy skills.
    • A high level of professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required, as travel is necessary to various courts.
