Enhancing the quality of life for families through education and support services
Head Start is a federally funded program that serves low income preschool children and their families. Head Start offers education services, health services, mental health services, nutrition and parent involvment. The fundamental goal of Head Start is to increase social compentence in children. In striving to achieve this goal, the cognitive, social, emotional, creative, and physical development of all children is enhanced through developmentally appropriate activities in the classroom. Head Start realizes the importance of the entire family and the community in a child's development. Therefore, the program offers many opportunities for parents and community members to be involved in the program.
