NYC DOE Pelham Academy

Pelham Academy is a Middle School in the Bronx. We first opened our doors in 2009 and have had a successful couple of years. We have made good gains year after year and plan to continue to do so.

Our Mission:

The Pelham Academy for Academics and Community Engagement aims to provide its

students with the resources and supports they’ll need to gain admission into and be

competitive at college prep high schools. By providing access to the tools and the

coaching so they learn how to use those tools effectively, graduates of Pelham

Academy will be prepared to begin meeting the academic, social and emotional

challenges they will face on their way to college. By partnering with staff, students,

families and the community, we ensure that our approach is authentic and the identity of

our students, their families and the community is reflected in our work.

At our core is a rigorous academic curriculum that is supported by highly qualified

teachers and high expectations of all students. Literacy will be integrated throughout

the curriculum as students will have the opportunity to read and write, every day and in

every class. Students are encouraged to participate in additional academic support

opportunities during lunch, after school and on weekends. Students will have the

chance to work independently and in collaboration with their peers on an ongoing basis.
