The COIL Center is a leader in the emerging field of globally networked learning, a teaching and learning methodology that fosters exchange between faculty and students with peers abroad through Internet-based communication tools. COIL has created a model for supporting professors to develop co-equal multi-cultural online learning environments which emphasize experiential collaborative learning between students in two or more countries. The classes may be fully online, or taught in blended formats with face-to-face sessions at both schools, while collaborative student work takes place online. Our goal is to promote globally networked learning as a means to internationalize curricula, build global partnerships, and help prepare students for work and civil engagement in a global context.
