We will provide, protect and preserve a Park System that promotes recreational, cultural and outdoor experiences for the Austin community.

The award winning, Austin Parks and Recreation Department has diverse duties and responsibilities, it oversees:

- 17,576.06 acres of land
- 206 parks
- 12 Preserves, which are sanctuaries for native plants, native animals and unique natural features
- 26 Greenbelts, which is parkland on creeks and canyons
- More than 100 miles of hike and bike trails
- 48 public pools, including 12 wading pools, 6 municipal pools, 2 water playgrounds, 27 neighborhood pools, and Barton Springs
- 5 public Golf courses
- Maintenance of 2,000 miles of street right-of ways and blind corners
- 20 Recreation Centers and 3 Senior Centers
- 4 Museums, and 2 Art Centers
- 2 Hillside Theaters
