Development Director

Arlington EATS is a visionary nonprofit engaging the community in eliminating food insecurity and hunger in Arlington. EATS is experiencing a time of growth as food insecurity rates continue to rise in our community. As a result, we are looking to add a part-time Development Director to our staff team to advance our mission, secure funding, build relationships, and increase visibility.

Position Summary: The Development Director (DD) works collaboratively with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Committee of the Board, and EATS team to increase revenues from a variety of sources through individual donations, events, corporate sponsorships, foundations, and grants. The DD, in partnership with the ED, will design and implement strategies to diversify EATS’ funding base, use data to improve storytelling around EATS’ impact, and grow a base of committed and informed supporters. This role requires a hands-on, results-driven individual who thrives in a collaborative and mission-driven environment.

Position Type: This will be a part-time exempt position and will report directly to the Executive Director.

Hours/Days: 32 hours per week (hybrid). Flexible schedule, will require occasional evenings and weekends depending on the need for representation at events.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising and Development Strategy

• In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive annual development plan and budget.
• Analyze data, tracking revenue and non-revenue goals, to monitor progress, fine-tune strategy, and report regularly to the ED and the Development Committee.
• Current strategies include: Individual Giving, Major Gifts, Events, Corporate Sponsorships, and Grants.

Individual Giving

• Expand the organization’s individual donor base at all levels by creating a continuum of philanthropic giving opportunities.
• Partner with the Executive Director and Board of Directors in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors. Provide prospect research.
• Manage all aspects of various giving campaigns.
• Ensure timely and accurate donor communications and acknowledgments.

Communications

• Enhance donor relations and public presence through storytelling and creating impact-focused communications, including annual reports and newsletters, both print and electronic.
• Manage public relations via social/digital media and print media.
• Ensure EATS collects the right data to tell stories about the impact of EATS’ services on the community.

Corporate and Foundation Fundraising

• Expand the organization’s revenue from foundations (private and corporate) by identifying new prospects, forming relationships, developing compelling proposals, preparing thorough reports, and ensuring accountability.

Events

• In collaboration with the Volunteer Manager, provide leadership and strategy for the organization’s two main fundraising events.
• Increase participation of individuals and corporations to increase revenue.
• Implement high-touch, targeted donor cultivation events.

Grant Writing and Management

• Work with and direct a consultant and volunteers for grant-related research, writing, and reporting.
• Maintain a high-functioning procedure of grant tracking.

Qualifications:

• Must have at least 5 years in the development field, with time spent as general specialist, preferably in a small non-profit organization.
• Experience and success with individual giving strategies, including major donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Experience and success with events and institutional fundraising/foundation relations.
• Experience with communication and marketing best practices, including storytelling.
• The general skills necessary to succeed in a small office of a mission-driven organization: ability to exercise initiative and work effectively with minimal supervision, excellent organizational skills, a willingness to work collaboratively, flexibility, curiosity, and creativity. Need to be a great team player and able to work with others to bring out the best in them, as well as yourself.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities with grace and confidence.

Skills:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, and Google applications suite (i.e., Google Calendar, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Docs), Canva, and social media platforms.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Solid written and oral communication skills
