Counselors at Camp Bernadette and Camp Fatima are called to make a lasting impact in the lives of young people—especially those who need extra support. The role goes beyond supervision; it is a vocation of leadership, mentorship, service, and faith-filled witness. Counselors live with campers, guide them throughout the day, ensure their safety and well-being, lead activities, and create a fun, structured, and transformative camp experience.
Qualifications:
- 17 years or older
- Ability and desire to live with and supervise children
- Skills to lead at least one activity
- Openness to supervision and growth
- Strong character, integrity, flexibility
- Willingness to follow camp philosophy and rules
- Commitment to living in assigned summer quarters
Responsible To:
Division Head, Head Staff and Resident Director and/or Assistant Resident Director
General Responsibilities:
- Supervise and care for campers at all times
- Ensure camper health, safety, and welfare
- Lead activities and actively participate
- Foster fun, energy, and engagement
- Maintain cabin cleanliness and structure
- Promote respect, fairness, and responsibility
- Communicate concerns appropriately to leadership
- Support camper growth socially, emotionally, and spiritually
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a positive Christian attitude at all times
- Help make camp a fun, safe, and transformative experience guided by the Catholic faith
- Lead by example in kindness, patience, humility, and service
- Treat every camper with dignity and fairness
- Encourage respect, responsibility, and moral character
- Create an environment rooted in Christian love and joy
- Use daily interactions (meals, bedtime talks, activities) as opportunities for mentorship and faith-centered growth
The camp experience is intentionally faith-filled. Counselors are witnesses to the Gospel through their example, their leadership, their discipline rooted in dignity, their encouragement and presence, and their commitment to serving others selflessly.
