    Descripción

    Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab located in beautiful Moab, Utah, is seeking a CVT/LVT preferably with experience in surgical field clinics. Experience in emergency medicine is a plus! The successful candidate will run the surgery side of our field clinics.

    Skill requirements:

    Good understanding of disease management in an area of highly unvaccinated animals

    Ability to keep accurate medical records in online clinic and shelter management programs

    Solid understanding of medical terminology

    Ability to triage medical cases quickly and appropriately

    Work effectively with individuals and colleagues from diverse communities and cultures

    Act in a professional manner even when stressed or focused on individual tasks

    Know common drugs and protocols

    Be familiar with principles of Fear Free animal handling

    Calculate, administer and properly manage fluids and medications and train others in same

    Be familiar with and perform oversight of support staff doing: venipunctures; placing IV catheters; prepping and applying bandages to wounds; monitoring vital signs; properly placing ET tubes; inducing and maintaining anesthesia; performing routine, in-house, diagnostic tests; maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment

    Care for common urgent cases including euthanasia

    Handling and documenting controlled substances and knowledge of policies related to same

    Experience with dogs and cats of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status

    Ability to explain treatments to clients

    You:

    Possess a valid drivers license and have the ability to travel for work, including overnight stays

    Can work flexible hours outside of 3 clinic days per month

    Have excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Are a great team member and also can work without direct oversight

    Work with a sense of urgency and possess critical thinking skills

    Can identify patient distress and react appropriately

    Thrive in a fast paced environment and remain cool under pressure

    Are comfortable doing patient assessments and procedures following established protocols

    Have great organizational skills

    Bring a positive attitude to work and promote the same in others

    Responsibilities at clinics will include (but may vary):

    • Attending clinics on the Navajo Nation
    • Ensure strict adherence to protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe surgical environment
    • Maintain accurate medical records, manage surgical inventory, scheduling, and post op follow up
    • Collaborate and communicate professionally with veterinarians, technicians, volunteers, and support staff to ensure smooth and efficient clinic flow.
    • Ensuring that veterinary staff is trained with our equipment
    • Assist the surgery team with questions, concerns and emergencies
    • Manage surgery flow throughout the clinic from check in to induction, surgery, recovery and discharge
    • Is comfortable communicating and training volunteers in different areas of the clinic
    • Is comfortable troubleshooting anesthesia machines, oxygen equipment, and sterilization equipment
    • Perform pre-surgical patient examinations as needed
    • Triage and initiate emergency stabilization with indirect supervision from a veterinarian

    Responsibilities between clinics include:

    • Ordering clinic supplies
    • Managing the surgery waitlist
    • Scheduling surgery appointments
    • Managing post-operative patient concerns
    • Unpacks and packs the mobile unit and trailer (able to lift 40# as needed)
    • Drives the mobile clinic to field locations
    • Recruit volunteer(s) for all clinic tasks during and before clinics
    • Confirming locations prior to clinic dates
    • Participating in locations decisions for the next year
    • Recruiting and scheduling veterinarians and technicians
    • Medical and supply inventory

    The successful candidate is looking for an opportunity to make an impact on a highly underserved community while tackling a challenging variety of tasks in a fast paced environment. If you are interested in field and emergency medicine and confident in your ability to make decisions on your feet, with and without the direction of a vet, this may be a great fit for you. This position is more than a job, and will not suit every vet tech.
