    About KT

Kol Tzedek, a Voice for Justice, is a Reconstructionist synagogue in West Philadelphia. We are a multiracial, intergenerational Jewish community where people are invited to study Torah, ask unanswerable questions, sing on and off key, teach our children, pursue justice, engage actively with our neighborhood, and care for one another. Together, we are building a spiritually rigorous, joyful refuge deeply grounded in Jewish tradition and practice. We welcome the questioning, the seeking, and the devoted. We dance together in celebration, pray with our whole selves, and support each other in grief. Our spiritual practices nourish and inspire us to make the world more whole.

    About You

You’re a dependable, detail-oriented person who loves making sure nothing falls through the cracks. You enjoy organizing information and spaces, communicating clearly, and supporting others as part of a team. You thrive in a role that requires flexibility, curiosity, and calm problem-solving. You share Kol Tzedek’s values and sense of purpose.

    About the Role

As Kol Tzedek continues to grow, we are adding a part-time Office Administrator to strengthen our internal systems and ensure our building & program logistics run smoothly. This role supports the Director of Operations across daily operations, building management, event logistics, and administrative tasks. This is a backbone support role: steady, organized, reliable, and responsive. Weekly hours average 15-20 hours/week, with lighter time in the summer and increased hours during major programs such as High Holidays and the annual retreat.

    Core Responsibilities

    Facilities Coordination (30%)

    • Support day-to-day functioning of the Whitby Ave building, including communicating with vendors, renters, and staff about space needs.
    • Manage office supplies and shared spaces; track inventory and place orders.
    • Coordinate calendars for room reservations and internal scheduling.

    Office & Administrative Support (40%)

    • Maintain organized digital and physical files; support data entry and databases.
    • Assist in maintaining internal systems that support smooth operations (forms, spreadsheets, workflows). Provide redundancy for KT’s core operational systems, ensuring that key functions can be maintained in the Director of Operations’ absence.
    • Support vendor payments, reimbursements, and financial tasks in coordination with the Director of Operations.
    • Provide administrative support to the Director of Operations & clergy as needed.

    Event & Program Logistics (30%)

    • Support set-up and logistics for large events (holidays, congregational retreat, etc.) and in preparation for weekly ritual services.
    • Help coordinate materials, AV, supplies, seating, and accessibility needs.

    Hours, Salary, and Benefits

    • This is a half-time (average of 15-20 hrs/week). The pay rate is $25-30/hr, commensurate with experience.
    • Purposeful work in a dynamic community organization with a collaborative team culture
    • This position primarily works in our office with remote work available for flexible hours. Some hours include events outside of traditional work hours.
    • Kol Tzedek is an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply.

    Experience and Competencies:

    • At least 3-5 years of demonstrated experience managing administrative systems, event logistics, and/or facilities
    • Proficient with technology tools such as databases and the Google suite
    • Demonstrated experience learning new tools and systems and identifying opportunities for improvements and efficiencies
    • Collaborative approach and experience working as a member of a team
    • Organized, reliable, and consistent with follow through
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Flexible and adaptable
    • Aligned to Kol Tzedek’s values and sense of purpose
    • Able to lift and carry items and do physical work for several hours, kneel, squat, and stand to perform duties, and ascend/descend stairs.
