    PFLAG ​is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. With a 50-plus year history of advocacy and service, this position is essential to the ongoing success of the organization and the movement. In these challenging times politically and culturally, PFLAG remains at the forefront of crucial and consequential impact for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

    Since its founding in 1973, PFLAG has worked every day to fight for an equitable, inclusive world where every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered and loved. PFLAG National has over 550,000 members and supporters and over 350 chapters in the United States. This vast grassroots network is led by the Chief Executive Officer, and cultivated, resourced, and serviced by the PFLAG National staff, Board of Directors, and Regional Directors Council. Currently, PFLAG National has a staff capacity of 30 FTEs who reside in Washington DC and thirteen states; over half of these work fully remote from its headquarters. PFLAG National has a labor agreement with the OPEIU Local 2, AFL-CIO and has a favorable relationship with its employees.

    Position:

    The Major Gifts Manager works with the Development & Philanthropic Partnerships team and other staff to meet PFLAG National’s fundraising goals. The Major Gifts Manager is a newly created position that will manage the major donor ($1,000+), mid-level donor ($250-999), and planned giving programs. This position will maintain the structure to grow the major gifts pipeline, manage a portfolio of prospects with high gift capacity, and ensure that major, mid-level, and planned giving donor experience results in renewed and increased donations. The Major Gifts Manager will report to the Vice President, Development & Philanthropic Partnerships.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Support the CEO, Vice President, Development & Philanthropic Partnerships, other Leadership members, and the Board of Directors in cultivating the organization’s most significant major donors and prospects and identifying and qualifying new major donor prospects;
    • Establish and manage major ($1,000+) and mid-level ($250-999) donor programs with the goal of retaining and upgrading donors;
    • Oversee stewardship of a high-quality donor experience through developing individual relationships, correspondence, mailings, acknowledgments, and other meaningful opportunities to engage with the organization;
    • Oversee development and production of collateral materials to support major donor, mid-level donor, and planned giving programs;
    • In collaboration with the Vice President, Development & Philanthropic Partnerships, support the direct-mail and digital fundraising programs to increase mid-level and major donors;
    • Refine and enhance the major/mid-level/planned giving programs in support of the strategic plan and organizational expansion;
    • Plan major donor events in key cities including identifying hosts and host committee members, and working with the Strategic Communications and External Relations department to write/deliver speeches and develop talking points for the CEO, Board Members, and other notable speakers (i.e., “the pitch”);
    • Respond to donor inquiries from various sources, including but not limited to phone, email, and social media in a timely manner; and maintain donor and prospect records in both electronic and paper form;
    • Produces fundraising progress reports for the VP of Development & Philanthropic Partnerships, CEO, and Board of Directors as needed;
    • Other tasks as assigned to support the department and grow revenue.

    Key Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience or a combination of both;
    • Minimum of 4+ years of professional history as a fundraiser with a focus on individual donors and major gifts;
    • Thorough understanding of nonprofit fundraising and experience as a member or leader of a nonprofit development team;
    • Proven track record of stewarding and closing five-figure and up gifts;
    • Knowledge of donor/CRM databases; Salesforce and/or Salsa Engage highly preferred;
    • Solid computer experience, including use of the internet, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Zoom;
    • Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues, DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) practices, and civil rights as a whole;
    • Enthusiastic support of PFLAG’s strategic vision, mission, and goals;
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills; effective communicator both in person and over the phone/teleconference;
    • Demonstrated ability to interact with donors;
    • Must be able and willing to travel as needed.

    This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union, Local 2, AFL-CIO.

    Salary: The salary range is $76,206.74 - $92,560.64 commensurate with experience, expertise, and other qualifying factors.

    Position Type and Work Hours: This is a full-time role, typically Mon-Fri, 8 hours per day. This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the DC office.
