ABOUT THE ROLE
As Camp Hale Program Coordinator, you’ll support Camp Hale seasonal programming on Squam Lake in New Hampshire. The residential camping experience provides boys, girls, and non-binary youth ages 6-14, unique opportunities for personal growth and development in a natural environment not found in typical urban living. As Program Coordinator, you will support the implementation of Camp Hale’s summer programs, including communication between the Program Director and other staff and management of supply inventory and equipment. The Program Coordinator also manages preparation and implementation of off-camp excursions. The role includes leadership of seasonal program staff while off-campus, and oversight of program safety and compliance standards. This position will report directly to the Program Director.
This position is responsible for supporting a wide range of activities designed to assist campers in mastering age-appropriate skills, increasing cooperative relationships and socialization skills, fostering an appreciation of the environment, and resulting in children enjoying the camping experience. The Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the scheduled programming is provided for the campers, maintaining supply inventories, and overseeing proper use and stewardship of special equipment.
The Camp Hale Program Coordinator is responsible for:
- Leading by example to ensure camper safety and positive youth development practices
- Maintaining an organized supply inventory that supports the full implementation of Camp Hale Programming
- Serving as leadership among program staff during excursions and communicating needs and changes back to the Camp Office
- Communicating effectively with the Program Director, Chef, Nurse, Bus Driver, and other camp administrators regarding the logistics around and during camp day and overnight expeditions
- Using sound judgement in the face of off-campus weather, behavior, safety, traffic, medical or other issues that may arise while on an excursion
- Communicating updates and announcements to staff and campers throughout the day as needed
- Communicating with program staff and Program Director to ensure the continuous improvement of camp programing, logistics, and transitions between activities, meals, and rest periods
- Providing competent, nondisruptive coverage for program activities at the direction of the Program Director
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The key responsibilities of this position include:
On-Camp Programming:
- Support the Program Director in the implementation of all camp programming, with a focus on supplies and logistics
- Maintain program supplies in a neat, organized fashion
- Ensure program supplies are used appropriately and put back clean and in good repair or replaced as needed
- Assist with communication around staff break times and provide coverage if needed
- Observe daily camp operations, ensuring activities run on schedule and transitions are executed in a timely manner
- Lead by example. Follow camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols at all times.
Off-Camp Excursions:
- Communicate with the Chef and ensure that excursion food, bagged lunches, extra water and snacks are accounted for in the appropriate numbers to feed the campers and staff going on the trip
- Communicate with the Nurse to ensure that there are an appropriate number of first aid kits stocked and packed, that the appropriate medical supplies and medications are packed for the campers on the trip, and that the necessary health forms are also packed on the trip, in case of emergency medical transport during the trip
- Confirm transportation and parking details for the trip
- Maintain timely communication with the camp office, especially regarding issues, changes, or emergencies
- Ensure all campers and staff are accounted for during departure, travel, and return, including potentially assigning campers and staff to smaller groups while on the excursion
- Carry and manage emergency information, first aid supplies, and communication devices
- Ensure timely return and safe transition back to camp, including the appropriate and prompt return of medical materials to the Nurse.
- Complete post-excursion documentation, including attendance and incident reports
- Manage the return, cleaning and storage of excursion gear in good repair as well as see to replacements as necessary
Regulatory/Physical Planning Responsibilities
- Ensure program areas operate in accordance with ACA standards and safety protocols, at the direction of the Program Director
- Assist in the organization and maintenance of program documentation and safety records
- Other duties as assigned

- At least 3 years experience working in diverse environments in youth development or in the camping arena, with at least 1 year experience in program support.
- Experience in a camp or youth program preferred
- Must have facility and excitement in working with underserved youth, staff, and families.
- Must be familiar with best practices in child development and astute at implementing environmental and recreational education curriculum
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated good judgement

Must be able to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and be capable of repetitive motion. Position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Work requires close visual acuity. Position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
WHAT WE OFFER
This is a seasonal position based in Squam Lake, NH, from June 8 – September 3. The stipend for this role is $600 to $800 per week, dependent on experience. Room and board are included for this time period, as well as all meals during the camp session.
