    OVERVIEW

    We are seeking an experienced finance leader to support our various ministry teams, staff, and congregants by leading the financial management, compliance, and financial operational efficiency efforts of the New Providence Presbyterian Church (NPPC), enabling us to pursue our mission to build a community that seeks to Know, Love, and Follow Jesus and Share Him with others.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Faith Commitment: Maintains a personal relationship with Christ and a desire to share their gifts and faith with others; Must adhere to the Essential Tenets of the Christian faith as outlined by our denomination ECO (Evangelical Covenant Order of Presbyterians) and demonstrates alignment with the core beliefs, Statement of Faith and lifestyle expectations of NPPC as outlined in the NPPC Statement of Faith/Lifestyle Agreement.
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years overseeing a budget of at least $1M; 10+ years preferred; nonprofit or faith-based experience preferred.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks Online Advanced, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and payroll systems.
    • Financial Expertise: Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, cost control, and cash flow management.
    • Compliance Knowledge: Thorough understanding of 501(c)(3) regulations and nonprofit financial compliance.
    • HR & Payroll Management: Experience managing payroll, employee benefits, and HR compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong service orientation and ability to foster positive relationships with team members and stakeholders.
    • Outstanding organizational skills and a keen attention to detail, ensuring smooth execution of all tasks and projects.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, prioritizing effectively to meet deadlines.
    • Adaptable and solution-oriented, with a can-do attitude when facing unpredictable challenges.
    • Reliable and consistent manager, committed to promoting clear communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
    • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve team goals.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Financial Management, Accounting and Long-term Planning

    • Oversee all accounting and financial management functions, including daily accounting entries, monthly closing process, and the development and implementation of internal controls.
    • Primary responsibility to produce and manage budgets, financial forecasts and monthly financial reports.
    • Lead monthly Finance committee meetings and participate as needed in Session meetings, both of which typically occur during the evening hours.
    • Analyze historic data to assess trends.
    • Develop long-term financial forecast to support strategic planning.

    Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

    • Ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey regulations for churches, including but not limited to IRC 501(c)(3) and NPPC finance and administration policies.
    • Direct outside payroll service processing, payroll tax remittance, and submission of federal and New Jersey payroll tax returns.
    • Support Executive Director in managing employee benefits and ensuring compliance with federal and New Jersey labor laws and regulations.
    • Cooperate with and respond to all requests from internal Audit team.

    Operations

    • Support Executive Director in all Human Resources activities.
    • Handle all cash management, accounts payable and banking activities to ensure smooth and compliant operation of all Church activities.
    • Manage external financial relationships such as banking and payroll provider.
    • Supervise procurement, expense processes, leasing arrangements, and service contracts.
    • Support Executive Director in procuring, managing and ensuring compliance with insurance programs.
    • In conjunction with the finance team, provide oversight of church investments in compliance with NPPC policies.
    • Manage grants and work with Donor Advised Funds to optimize donations.
    • Collaborate with the Office Manager to accurately track wages, record staff working hours (where applicable), sick and vacation days, ensuring seamless payroll processing.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Church Operations.

    Reporting to this position is a part-time Preschool Treasurer and Finance Assistant position.
