About the Social & Emotional Learning Specialist Position
The Social and Emotional Learning Specialist works with students and staff to ensure positive social interactions and academic success in the Capital City Lower School. The position works with the Principal, Director of Student Services, and Wellness Team, and staff to create a positive school community. The Social and Emotional Learning Specialist will work to build and deepen a positive school climate and culture by building the capacity of staff and students to understand and demonstrate the five core competencies of social-emotional learning: Self Awareness, Self- Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making. The Social and Emotional Learning Specialist reports to the Lower School Principal.

Desired Qualifications:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience teaching and/or in administration is required. Candidates should have experience working with young learners (preK-4th grade) and diverse populations. Expertise with trauma-informed practices, social and emotional learning, and experience with implementing SEL curriculum with elementary-aged students is a necessity.
In addition to the above requirements, staff members must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check.
