Position Summary
The Assistant Director supports the Executive Director in overseeing the daily operations, strategic initiatives, and long-term sustainability of the Ronald McDonald House. This role plays a key part in organizational planning, data and outcomes reporting, grant development, policy creation, and cross-department coordination. The Assistant Director ensures programs, staff, and services align with the mission of providing comfort and support to families of hospitalized children.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Assist in developing and managing the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and Finance Committee.
- Monitor financial performance with McDonald’s donation boxes, round up, and in-store fundraising events for the Ronald McDonald House.
- Oversee accounts payable/receivable processes, financial documentation, and internal controls to ensure transparency and compliance.
- Support grants, financial reporting, audit preparation, and long-term financial planning.
Operations & House Management
- Help oversee day-to-day house operations, ensuring a clean, safe, compassionate environment for families and staff.
- Help manage facilities maintenance, vendor relationships, supply inventories, and operational contracts.
- Supervise and support frontline staff, volunteers, and house operations teams; promote a culture of service, accountability, and collaboration.
- Maintain and refine operational policies, procedures, and emergency protocols in alignment with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) standards.
Strategic Planning & Organizational Leadership
- Support the Executive Director in leading the development, execution, and evaluation of multi-year strategic plans.
- Analyze organizational data and trends to identify opportunities for program improvement and innovation.
- Ensure alignment with mission, strategic priorities, and RMHC global standards.
- Assist in staff professional development, fostering a high-performing and mission-driven team culture.
Board & Committee Relations
- Prepare board materials, reports, dashboards, and presentations for board and committee meetings.
- Serve as staff liaison to key committees (e.g., Finance, Operations, Strategic Planning), ensuring timely follow-up and clear communication.
- Support board engagement by providing data, insights, and recommendations that inform governance and decision-making.
- Assist in onboarding new board members and ensuring compliance with bylaws, policies, and governance practices.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required. Nonprofit management or a related field (a master’s degree is a plus).
- 3–5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit operations, program management, or a related area.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, grant writing, and data/report creation.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and reporting.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with families, staff, volunteers, donors, and board members.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Skills
- Excellent professional writing skills, including policy drafting and grant narrative development.
- Proficiency in standard software like Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
