    Ballard Food Bank’s mission is to bring food and hope to our neighbors because there can be enough for everyone. To achieve our mission, we provide access to nutritious foods through our grocery model food bank, Kindness Café, and Community Resource Hub, which encompasses financial resources, referral, and mail services that support self-sufficiency. We also advocate for food equity and justice. Our home, which opened in October 2021, serves as a Hub for Hope as it brings together food, services, and community partners in a one-stop shop. The Ballard Food Bank actively strives to be an anti-racist organization and promotes the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in its work. 

    Position Summary:

    The Client Advocate is an important member of Ballard Food Bank’s Community Resource Hub. Together, the team provides a client-centered approach by meeting community members where they are and supporting them as they work to achieve their goals. The Client Advocate will engage with community members, community partners, and volunteers to build a bridge of services and connections. This Community Resource Hub team provides clients with a range of services that help individuals achieve self-sufficiency, including case management, resource navigation to on-site and offsite partners, community outreach, mail, as well as financial assistance to prevent homelessness.

    Responsibilities:

    • Identify, develop, and maintain an ongoing caseload of 15-30 individuals seeking both light support and more intensive/ongoing case management
    • Navigate resources and work through barriers with clients to help them achieve self-sufficiency as they define it
    • Work alongside clients to prepare and submit a variety of applications including housing, employment, and benefits
    • Advocate and engage with community partners and services
    • Organize and maintain detailed records and complete required paperwork and reports
    • Partner with other Community Resource Hub team members to support services that are offered by our program team or community partners, including distribution of mail and financial support services
    • Work with our forward-facing team to develop client relationships and support a positive community space
    • Assist with coordinating and accompanying clients to off-site appointments as needed

    Qualifications:

    An ideal candidate will have:

    • Commitment to racial equity and social justice
    • Working knowledge of local health and human service systems, including community mental health, substance use treatment, housing, and other human service programs
    • 3+ years of experience in delivering case management services to clients
    • Proficiency in Spanish
    • Experience with conflict de-escalation, harm reduction, and trauma informed care
    • Experience in maintaining strong, productive boundaries with clients
    • Background of working with clients experiencing SUD and active mental health struggles
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • A valid driver’s license or ability to navigate public transportation effectively and efficiently

    Hours:

    This is a full-time position with much of the work happening Monday – Thursday with some evening and weekend hours for events or programming. Ballard Food Bank currently works a 35-hour work week.

    Compensación

    The starting range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 per year. Ballard Food Bank provides a comprehensive benefits package including but not restricted to: Medical, dental and vision benefits; employer-matched Simple IRA; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
