    Descripción

MATHCOUNTS, the nation’s premier non-profit dedicated to middle school mathematics, is seeking a Manager of Elementary Math Content to help us deliver on our vital mission of inspiring excellence, confidence and curiosity in US students through fun and challenging math programs. After four decades of focusing exclusively on middle school, we are growing our team to serve grades 3-5 and 6-8.

The Manager of Elementary Math Content (MEMC) is a multi-faceted professional who embraces project management; motivates and exudes sincere appreciation for volunteers and partners; and is a mathematician who loves to be challenged, but also understands elementary and middle school math expectations. The MEMC is a creative person with a passion for detail who tweaks and tinkers until they feel great pride in their work.

    Essential responsibilities include:

    Grades 3-5 Math Content

    • Create fun and challenging math competitions for grades 3-5 students, ensuring alignment to elementary school math standards. This includes editing and curating a bank of provided math problems, writing new math problems (when needed), and formatting/designing test materials.
    • Create engaging, comprehensive practice materials for grades 3-5 educators to prepare their students for math competitions. These could include video lessons, worksheets, hands-on activities and online activities.
    • Manage partnerships with volunteers and education organizations that write math problems, ensuring deadlines are met and partners feel valued and appreciated.
    • Work with consultants, printers and other vendors to finalize resources.

    Grades 4-8 Math Content

    • Work with the senior manager of programs to help design and create math games, explorations and group projects covering grades 4-8 math skills/topics, to be used by middle school math clubs.
    • Work with the senior manager of programs to write and edit math problems to be used for monthly program activities and the Problem of the Week resource, ensuring alignment to middle school math standards.
    • Create new materials and curate existing content for math events with outreach partners and school districts, including slide decks, mini competitions and club activities.
    • Work with the manager of math content creation to review and proofread grades 6-8 practice and competition materials.

    Candidate must possess:

    • Strong working knowledge of elementary and middle school mathematics, including differences in knowledge and skills across various grade levels.
    • High-level organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and complete assignments on time, while meeting ambitious quality specifications.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective working relationships with essential volunteers and math content partners.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software/applications.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work efficiently and independently on various projects simultaneously.
    • Eagerness to receive and incorporate feedback readily.

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • A bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics.
    • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and MathType.
    • Experience with math, education or STEM extracurricular programs.
    • Experience as an upper elementary school (grades 3-6) classroom teacher.
    • Experience in fast-paced, non-profit office setting.

The MEMC will be a full-time position, either virtual or hybrid, and specific hours will be flexible. Our office is located in Old Town, Alexandria, VA (just a 5-minute walk from the King Street metro station and close to multiple bus routes, including the Old Town Circulator and Metroway).
