Purpose
The Executive Director of San Francisco Youth Soccer contributes to the strategic goals of the organization through leadership, fundraising, employee management and community engagement.
Position Summary
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of San Francisco Youth Soccer, responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the organization. This role requires a dynamic and results-oriented leader with a growth mindset and passion for youth soccer and a strong commitment to the organization's mission. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to ensure the successful implementation of the organization's strategic plan and achieve its goals. The Executive Director has an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of youth in San Francisco through soccer.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management:
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the organization, ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and values.
- Oversee all aspects of the organization, including league operations, program development, fundraising, finance, marketing, communications, and human resources.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Recruit, hire, and train qualified staff members.
- Develop and implement performance management systems for staff.
- League Operations
- Ensure optimization of resources to ensure growth of league.
- Maintain and further develop relationships with key league partners.
- Ensure transparency of data to identify opportunities for league growth.
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Oversee the design, development and implementation of high-quality soccer programs for youth.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in all programs.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with coaches, volunteers, and program participants.
- Monitor program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to ensure program quality and participant satisfaction.
- Fundraising and Development:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial resources from various sources, including individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government grants.
- Manage all aspects of fundraising activities, including donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with donors and funders.
- Oversee fundraising campaigns.
- Financial Management and Sustainability:
- Oversee and lead the development and management of the organization's budget.
- Monitor budget performance.
- Present the budget to the Board of Directors.
- Ensure budget compliance.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls.
- Prepare regular financial reports for the Board.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Marketing and Communications:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to enhance the organization's visibility and brand awareness.
- Manage all aspects of the organization's marketing and communications activities, including website, social media, press releases, and public relations.
- Board Relations:
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to provide regular updates on the organization's progress and address concerns.
- Prepare and present reports to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the Board and staff.
- Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, including schools, local businesses, government agencies and other nonprofit organizations.
- Advocate for the organization's mission and the importance of youth sports in the community.
- Represent the organization at community events and other public forums.
- Systems Building and Management:
- Establish day-to-day systems to ensure productive workflows and team collaboration, demonstrating exceptional follow-through.
- Partner closely with the board to create and maintain clear lines of communication around local fundraising initiatives and progress.
- Provide strategic guidance and thought partnership on initiatives.
- Build a data driven culture to support organizational goals via Key Performance Indicators, data visualization and Objective and Key Results initiatives.
- Experience in streamlining operations and improving efficiency.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit management or a related field.
- 10 years of progressive leadership experience in sports management or youth development, with a focus on growth.
- Proven experience in fundraising, program development, and community outreach.
- Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
- Highly experienced in project management methodologies with a demonstrated track record of successfully managing and delivering complex projects on time and within budget. Proven ability to juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines, prioritize tasks effectively, and adapt to changing requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong financial and budget management skills.
- Experience with database management and CRM systems (Salesforce a plus).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.
- Experience in project management platforms (Asana or Monday.com a plus).
- Passion for soccer and a strong commitment to the organization's mission.
