    Descripción

Liberty's Promise is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting low-income, immigrant youth, ages 11-21, through our after-school civic engagement programs and professional internship programs. We are currently seeking an energetic and dedicated full-time Program Officer to run our Civics and Citizenship after-school programs at two high schools in Baltimore. The successful candidate will work to implement the organization’s civic engagement program at the school, build connections in the community to support our programming and youth, and aid in fundraising efforts through occasional grant writing and editing. This position will run our after-school programs at Ben Franklin and Patterson High Schools, where they will be on-site two afternoons a week at each school. A total of approximately 6 hours per week will be on-site at the high schools, and the remaining hours will be spent working from our Baltimore office. All applicants must have substantial and successful experience working with adolescents, preferably in a multicultural environment. Applicants must have oral and written fluency in English and Spanish. Due to necessary travel between program sites, applicants should have reliable transportation. The position is open until filled.

In our after-school programs, we teach youth about American civic life, the college application process, and how to apply for employment, while encouraging them to become involved in the community. We implement this curriculum through games, field trips, and interactive activities. In this role, creativity is key. Many youth in our Loudoun County programs have recently arrived in the United States, so a successful program officer should be an empathetic listener and culturally sensitive to their lived experiences.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Program Planning and Execution (40% of time)

    • Develop curriculum and lead after-school civic engagement programs for low-income, immigrant youth at two Baltimore County high schools
    • Organize and schedule guest speakers, who will visit the program to spread awareness of community resources that may benefit our youth, as well as model their respective career fields
    • Organize and schedule at least two field trips per session, per school
    • Assist youth individually as needed, acting as a trusted mentor who can connect youth and their families to the services or additional support that they need

Data collection, reporting, and knowledge management (10% of time)

    • Collect and organize youth registration forms, and upload that information in Box and Salesforce
    • Track and update program outcomes and statistics using Salesforce
    • Ensure that data for Baltimore County is up-to-date and available for grant submissions

    Administration (30% of time)

    • Write and edit grant proposals for Liberty’s Promise
    • Complete all monthly reporting necessary for Baltimore County grants
    • Draft reports and case studies for marketing material
    • Organize all program related material (photos, receipts, handouts, etc.)

    External Relations (15% of time)

    • Build and maintain active relationships with Liberty’s Promise designated schools, districts, and systems, including high schools and local colleges
    • Maintain an active knowledge base of nonprofits and programs related to Liberty’s Promise mission, and serve as a liaison, anticipating the needs of our youth to connect them with the local community resources that are available
    • Develop relationships with local businesses, organizations, and government agencies
    • Occasionally attend weekend or evening meetings on behalf of Liberty’s Promise

Additional duties as assigned (5% of time)

    Position Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience
    • Fluency in English and Spanish is required
    • Ability to work in a small office environment
    • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles
    • Must exhibit flexibility, reliability, exceptional professionalism, and a strong work ethic
    • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to think on your feet and find solutions to unanticipated problems
    • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team
    • Deep belief in Liberty’s Promise mission, vision, and values
    • Dedication to working with immigrant youth and expanding the opportunities for Liberty’s Promise to grow and impact the community

    Compensation and Benefits:

Starting salary will be $48,000 per year, including 80% paid health care benefits (if desired), a standard vacation and sick package, life insurance, and a monthly transportation stipend.
