    About Us

For over a decade, The Honeycomb Project has redefined youth volunteerism, providing a platform for children aged 3-17 to discover their potential to shape the future. Through family-centered programs, we equip kids with meaningful ways to tackle pressing issues—from food insecurity to climate change—while providing vital resources and support to local nonprofits during this time of immense need.

At Honeycomb, we believe kids are powerful leaders NOW. Our innovative multi-generational approach to volunteerism cultivates a sense of civic responsibility in children and a lifelong commitment to service. Together, families roll up their sleeves—cooking meals for shelters, planting urban gardens, restoring nature trails—and discover that change begins at home, in their own backyards.

As Ava, age 16, and recipient of the 2023 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award puts it: "Honeycomb empowers my generation to speak up and make a difference. I’ve been volunteering since I was five. I want everyone to know they can help make the world a better place."

Now, we’re ready to bring this movement to the greater Washington, DC area—and we’re looking for a passionate, community-driven Program Manager like you to lead the charge.

    Powerful Partnerships

As Program Manager, you’ll lead the launch of Honeycomb’s volunteer programs in DC, shaping a vibrant calendar of multi-generational volunteer programs. This is not your typical program management job. Each Honeycomb project is crafted in collaboration with local partners and tailored to their specific needs.

Nonprofits across the country are facing increasing demand for services, often with limited resources to meet the need. Honeycomb partners with local organizations to help bridge this gap—providing the volunteers and support essential to sustaining their work.

    Role Description

As Program Manager, you’ll take the lead on the ground—building partnerships, leading enriching volunteer programs, growing an engaged community of families, and help build Honeycomb’s presence in a new city. If you like to take initiative and thrive in a creative and collaborative environment, this role is for you.

    What You’ll Do

You’ll wear many hats—planner, leader, community builder, and educator. Here’s how you’ll make it happen:

Lead and Deliver Programs: Design, manage, and lead a robust calendar of in-person programs that bring families together to serve DC communities. Oversee all aspects of project delivery, including logistics, staffing, registration, data analysis and reporting. Expect to lead 3-5 weekend/evening projects/events per month.

Build Partnerships: Forge strong, lasting relationships with local nonprofits, businesses, and community groups to create high-impact projects that benefit both the partners we serve and the families who volunteer.

Enrich Learning: Honeycomb volunteers learn by doing. Inspired by the Montessori approach and rooted in educational best practices, you’ll design thoughtful, site-specific learning materials that elevate each project. Using media, guided discussions, reflection activities, and interactive learning, you’ll help families deepen their understanding and curiosity with every volunteer experience.

Grow Community: Cultivate a diverse, multi-generational volunteer base. You’ll actively recruit new families by connecting with schools, workplaces, community groups, and other networks.

Communications: Keep our community informed and inspired—manage program communications, including updates on website and social media, and outreach to volunteers and partners.

Develop Leaders: Support the recruitment, training, and mentorship of Project Leaders, adult volunteers, and teen leaders in the Honeycomb Leadership Corps.

Collaborate on Strategy: Work with Honeycomb’s Executive Director, and local board to adapt and scale our model in DC. Help shape long-term strategy and sustainability in this new city.

    Skills & Competencies

Interpersonal Savvy: You are a people person! You can relate to all kinds of people and build meaningful connections easily.

Problem-Solving: You treat every situation with a positive “can do” attitude. You identify challenges and respond constructively to bring about solutions. You are flexible and positive when difficulties arise.

Organized & Detail-Focused: You’re a master planner, able to juggle logistics, deadlines, and shifting priorities. You accurately scope out the length and difficulty of projects, set goals, develop schedules and assignments, adjust for roadblocks, and evaluate results.

Initiative: Your friends would describe you as very ambitious. You go the extra mile to get things done. You approach your work with creativity and bring new ideas to the table.

Building Effective Teams: You define success in terms of the whole team. You maintain positive working relationships and inspire cooperation. You share wins and successes, foster open dialogue, and create a sense of community with your coworkers.

Oral and Written Communications: You are a clear and graceful communicator. You are comfortable with public speaking and facilitating workshops. You can adapt your style and tone to different audiences (kids, donors, partner organizations, team members).

Committed: You are passionate about family volunteering and embody the mission, goals, and values of The Honeycomb Project through all professional interactions.

    Job Requirements/Details:

We’re looking for a self-motivated, meticulous planner with strong communication skills, a passion for community impact, and the grit and drive to build something meaningful from the ground up.
