    What’s Oakland Genesis Soccer Club?

For Oakland Genesis, soccer is more than just a sport. It's a tool to empower, educate, and inspire Oakland's leaders of tomorrow. Alongside free professional soccer coaching, Oakland Genesis provides participants with transportation, academic support and enrichment, mentorship, college counseling, career development, and health and wellness education. The core of our mission is inclusivity. We deliver cost-free youth development programming to underserved Oakland youth, channeling their passion for soccer into personal growth, educational achievement and life success.

    • 100% of players engage in a meaningful summer experience (e.g. job, internship, community service, work experience) to build their career readiness skills

What are the core responsibilities of the Academic Coach?

    • Deliver OGSC curriculum effectively to prepare players with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve the program goals

For example, a Coach may work with a team on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. In between sessions, Academic Coaches will follow up with players and families, as needed, and internalize the curriculum to be prepared for their sessions. There are opportunities for coaches to work with multiple teams.
