What’s Oakland Genesis Soccer Club?
For Oakland Genesis, soccer is more than just a sport. It's a tool to empower, educate, and inspire Oakland's leaders of tomorrow. Alongside free professional soccer coaching, Oakland Genesis provides participants with transportation, academic support and enrichment, mentorship, college counseling, career development, and health and wellness education. The core of our mission is inclusivity. We deliver cost-free youth development programming to underserved Oakland youth, channeling their passion for soccer into personal growth, educational achievement and life success.
What are the goals of the Academic Program?
There are 3 goals of the Academy program:
What are the core responsibilities of the Academic Coach?
What is the time commitment?
At minimum, each Academic Coach leads their group of players 2 days/week from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm (times may vary depending on team needs). For example, a Coach may work with a team on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. In between sessions, Academic Coaches will follow up with players and families, as needed, and internalize the curriculum to be prepared for their sessions. There are opportunities for coaches to work with multiple teams.
Additionally, each Academic Coach attends the Academic Team meeting in person on 2 Mondays per month from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm.
What is the compensation?
This is a part-time position that is paid at $30 - $40 per hour, depending on coach experience. Generally, Academic Coaches work approximately 8 - 12 hours per week.
