    Descripción

    Daytop Preparatory School, located in Huntington, NY, is seeking a high school teacher assistant for grades 9-12 in a SpEd co-teaching model.

    This is an immediate temporary role through the end of the 2026 school year, with a possibility of this role becoming permanent.

    Students at Daytop Preparatory School are receiving education while participating in treatment programs through Samaritan Daytop Village. The school serves youth who may be experiencing substance use challenges, behavioral difficulties, or co-occurring mental health needs and who benefit from a structured, therapeutic learning environment. Students often require individualized academic instruction and strong social-emotional support. Through its continuum of care, the agency also provides counseling, behavioral health and substance use treatment, case management, and family support services to help students stabilize, continue their education, and successfully transition back to their communities.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with teachers to deliver evidence-based instruction within a trauma-informed co-teaching framework.
    • Integrate therapeutic goals and clinical treatment plans into daily academic activities to support holistic student recovery.
    • Implement personalized learning strategies and IEP modifications for neurodivergent students and those with social-emotional challenges.
    • Facilitate small group interventions, academic coaching, and individualized remediation to bridge learning gaps.
    • Support student crisis de-escalation and emotional regulation using restorative practices and mental health first aid.
    • Administer standardized assessments and progress monitoring tools to track academic growth and Title 1 compliance.
    • Manage digital and physical academic records with a focus on data integrity and state reporting standards.
    • Coordinate with the multidisciplinary team to document student transitions, including admissions, transfers, and discharge planning.
    • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and FERPA regulations while communicating student progress to authorized stakeholders.
    • Assist in the development of inclusive curriculum projects and student recognition programs that foster a sense of belonging

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED Required, with Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred
    • NY State Teaching Assistant Certification, preferred
    • At least one year of working with highschool students, preferably including those with IEPs and/or special needs
    • Prior experience working with students with substance use disorder and/or mental illness, preferred.
    • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families and students.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with students struggling with academic subjects.
    • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
    • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area.
    • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
    • Adaptable to change in the work environment.
    • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
