    SAGE is the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging and its growing social enterprise SAGECare.

    Role Summary:

    The primary function of the Program Coordinator for Arts & Culture is to create, plan, implement, and manage arts and culture, along with women’s programming, for LGBTQ+ older adults at the Edie Windsor SAGE Center. They will collaborate with the Program Coordinator for Health & Wellness, to create innovative special programs and events. They should have a strong passion for, and considerable experience working with aging and/or LGBTQ+ communities and should ideally have some experience in programmatic design and implementation. They must be able to effectively engage and work with LGBTQ+ older adults, community partners, and other departments at SAGE. This role reports directly to the Director of the Edie Windsor SAGE Center.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Plan, coordinate, and promote innovative arts, culture, women’s, education, recreation, and technology programming at The Edie Windsor SAGE Center
    • Develop a rapport with participants by consistently engaging and interacting with them. Create an inviting atmosphere that encourages active involvement in the Center's programs and activities
    • Facilitate programs and coordinate activities as required
    • Meet with the Center Director regularly to evaluate programming outcomes and goals, ensuring alignment with the NYC Department of Aging contractual targets. Develop a plan to address any identified deficiencies
    • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator for Health & Wellness to plan, coordinate, and promote innovative and sophisticated special programs and events
    • Develop relationships with community partners for the purpose of creating collaborative programming opportunities. Build strong relationships with program volunteers and consultants
    • Provide additional support for programs (assist with equipment setup of audio/visual equipment, set up and break down furniture, provide supplies, and collect attendance sheets)
    • Work independently and collaboratively with programming staff to meet deadlines for creation of the program calendar and outreach material
    • Publicize events through the creation of printed flyers, announcements, and word of mouth
    • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for participants about SAGE’s services and programs, and make appropriate referrals
    • Assist with food service distribution and act as dinner host as needed
    • Represent SAGE at community events and conferences (e.g., health fairs, pride festivals) as needed
    • Complete mandatory training to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements
    • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

    While no one person embodies all the qualities outlined below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences. Please consider applying, even if you do not have *all* the “need-to-haves!”

    Need-to-haves:

    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in Arts & Culture or aging is preferred; Substantial work experience in relevant fields may be substituted for degree
    • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in aging field, LGBTQ+ service or in program development
    • Experience collaborating with other community-based organizations to produce programming
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with SAGE’s diverse constituency
    • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently, with good judgment, as well as collaboratively as part of a team
    • Detail-oriented with ability to follow through on tasks without supervision
    • Computer proficient, specifically in Microsoft Suite, Canva, or other graphic design platforms
    • Commitment to SAGE’s mission and alignment with SAGE’s values

    Nice-to-haves:

    • Experience and passion for working with marginalized communities
    • Familiarity with the history and issues facing marginalized older adults and the LGBTQ+ community
    • Working knowledge of NYC Department for the Aging regulations and guidelines
    • Flexible and dependable - This position requires occasional special event hours, but the daily regular hours are Monday - Friday onsite, 12pm-8pm
    • Work one weekend day for special events as needed and assist with Center Cooling Centers during heat advisory emergencies
    • Must be willing to acquire NYC Food Handlers' license
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
