    Descripción

    The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous (JFR) is a leading international Holocaust foundation dedicated to providing financial assistance to aged and needy Righteous Gentiles, non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust, and to teaching the history of the Holocaust with a foregrounding in antisemitism. The JFR’s education program is national in scope and has strong relationships with key Holocaust institutions internationally.

    The JFR is looking for an individual with a strong academic background and teaching skills in Holocaust education. The Director of Education is responsible for leading the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of the JFR’s educational programs. This individual will work closely with JFR staff, board as well as with external partners to promote JFR’s educational programs. The ideal candidate is a visionary educator with strong leadership, curriculum development, and program management skills. The position is located in West Orange, New Jersey and is an in-office position.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Strategy & Leadership

    • Develop and oversee the education strategy in line with the Foundation’s mission and goals.
    • Provide leadership to the Education Department, managing staff, consultants, and volunteers.
    • Identify areas of future need for the growth of the education program.

    Program Development & Implementation

    • Organize and implement the Foundation's professional development programs for middle and high school teachers and for Holocaust center education personnel.
    • Author, design, produce, edit, and market the Foundation's classroom materials and publications.
    • Assist in maintaining the JFR website and social media profile.
    • Prepare the Foundation's three e-newsletters.
    • Present educational workshops to groups of teachers and students which may include travel on Saturday and Sunday.
    • Interact with the JFR Education Committee on matters concerning the education program.
    • Oversee a grants program for partner Holocaust centers and affiliated educators.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Partnership and Advocacy

    • Manage the JFR’s Holocaust Centers of Excellence program.
    • Build and manage relationships with educational institutions, educators, community leaders, governmental entities, and other non-profits, both in the United States and abroad.
    • Represent the Foundation at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
    • Interact with grant makers and donors on matters concerning the education program.

    Resource Management

    • Develop and manage the education program budget.
    • Participate in grant writing and fundraising efforts for education initiatives.

    Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

    • Establish systems for monitoring program outcomes and evaluating impact.
    • Analyze data and feedback to improve the JFR’s educational programs.
    • Prepare reports for the Education Committee and Board of Trustees.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate should possess the following skills, knowledge, and abilities:

    • Substantial knowledge of the history of the Holocaust and antisemitism acquired through coursework at the undergraduate or graduate level. Graduate level study is preferred.
    • Social Studies or English teaching background.
    • Experience in managing, administering, and implementing educational programs, with at least ten years of work experience past obtaining a BA or BS degree, with at least six years of classroom experience at the middle or high school level, preferably in a public-school setting.
    • Strong understanding of educational policy, pedagogy, and curriculum design and implementation.
    • Proven leadership and team management skills.
    • Ability to design Holocaust educational programs at the middle and high school level.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills.
    • Ability to make presentations and represent the JFR to key educators, grant makers, and Foundation donors.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proven ability to think and act strategically.
    • Knowledge of national and international Holocaust resources.
    • Must be organized and demonstrate ability to work both independently and as a team member.
    • Be able to travel nationally and internationally.

    Preferred Candidates will:

    • Have a Master’s degree in a related field.
    • Have classroom teaching experience in a public-school setting.
    • Have experience and an understanding of the non-profit environment.
    • Be knowledgeable about the Jewish community and Jewish history.
