    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    The Intake Advocate plays a key role in connecting survivors of human trafficking to critical legal care through ALIGHT’s trauma-informed intake process. Serving as the survivor’s primary point of contact with ALIGHT, the Intake Advocate conducts eligibility screenings, gathers intake documentation, and facilitates survivor referrals to pro bono attorneys via ALIGHT’s technology platform. This role also supports case monitoring, helps resolve gaps in legal connections, and contributes to program improvements based on survivor and partner feedback.

    The Intake Advocate is also responsible for building and maintaining ALIGHT’s network of community service provider partners, including providing training and fostering relationships.

    The position reports to the Program and Operations Director.

    The role will start between 25% and 50% part-time, based on program needs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Survivor Intake and Eligibility

    • Conduct trauma-informed phone screenings to determine survivor eligibility for ALIGHT's legal program.
    • Collect and manage survivor consent forms and related intake documentation.

    Case Placement & Support

    • Post survivors' requests for legal care to ALIGHT's technology platform.
    • Develop case summaries, including legal issues and relevant jurisdictions.
    • Monitor platform activity and facilitate timely attorney-survivor connections.
    • Assist survivors in connecting with the appropriate pro bono attorney through tailored guidance, resources, and info guides.
    • Contribute to the creation of any required documentation for survivors.

    Case Monitoring & Quality Control

    • Open new matters and maintain records in ALIGHT’s CRM/database.
    • Maintain regular communication with survivors and their advocates/case managers to confirm placement details and address any issues.
    • Track and help resolve issues related to survivor-attorney communication or unmet legal needs.
    • Conduct survivor feedback and impact surveys by phone.

    Network Building and Partnership Development

    • Conduct outreach, onboarding, vetting and training of community service providers.
    • Cultivate, maintain and track relationships with community service providers per ALIGHT’s partnership tier structure.
    • Build ALIGHT's partner community service provider's capacity to provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered legal care.
    • Represent ALIGHT at community events and support initiatives to bolster engagement in the program.
    • Maintain community service provider and other relevant records in ALIGHT’s CRM/database.

    Trainings & Materials

    • Provide training to community service providers on (a) ALIGHT’s program (covering its structure, standards, and eligibility criteria) and, (b) human trafficking, trauma-informed care, and other relevant contextual topics.
    • Support trauma-informed, survivor-centered skill-building among community service providers.
    • Develop and deliver other trainings that respond to emerging program needs or gaps.
    • Collaborate on training resources for attorneys when needed.

    Program Development

    • Identify and implement iterative program improvements based on outcomes and feedback.
    • Identify and develop program improvements, including new systems, policies, and processes.

    Non-Legal Support

    • Identify and refer survivors to appropriate non-legal resources as needed.
    • Maintain a database of available non-legal support resources.

    Other Duties

    • Domestic travel may be required for training and outreach.
    • Additional duties as assigned in alignment with ALIGHT’s strategic goals.

    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Role Specific

    • Experience conducting trauma-informed intakes or screenings, ideally within a legal aid, social work, or victim advocacy setting.
    • Degree in social work (MSW) or related field, or equivalent experience in survivor-facing service roles.
    • Experience supporting community-based organizations, including outreach, training, or partnership cultivation.
    • Demonstrated ability to connect needs with legal and non-legal resources, using creative problem-solving and compassion.
    • (Preferred): Legal issue-spotting and determining jurisdictions.
    • (Preferred): Spanish language skills.

    Core Competencies

    • Commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centered practice, grounded in respect, dignity, and cultural humility.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage ethically with vulnerable populations, including knowledge of confidentiality and mandatory reporting.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and remotely in an entrepreneurial setting, using tools like Google Workspace, Zoom, mobile apps, and CRMs.
    • Proven ability to manage time, data, and complex information across multiple systems, platforms and stakeholders.
    • Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions, bringing a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
    • Demonstrated ability to adapt to fast-changing program needs.
    • Experience in growing networks, developing partnerships and building relationships across diverse stakeholders.
    • Experience developing and facilitating trainings, both live and virtual, using accessible and inclusive teaching strategies.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills including content creation.
    • Ability to remain calm under pressure, maintain professional boundaries, and model self-care and resilience.
