    FestivALL Charleston is a multidisciplinary arts nonprofit known for transforming Charleston, WV into “a work of art.” Through events, performances, and community programming, FestivALL uplifts artists, fosters collaboration, and brings joy and artistic enrichment to the Charleston area. With deep roots in the local arts community, FestivALL is seeking a visionary and dynamic Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter.

    Position Overview

    The Executive Director is a collaborative and strategic leader responsible for the vision, administration, fundraising, and operations of FestivALL. This role works closely with staff, board, artists, funders, and community partners to uphold and evolve FestivALL’s mission and impact. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board President and supports the efforts of the Board of Directors.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary Range: $55,000–$70,000 annually, commensurate with experience

    Candidate Qualities & Qualifications

    FestivALL is seeking a candidate who possesses the following qualities and experience:

    • Demonstrated leadership in the nonprofit, arts, or cultural sector
    • Deep commitment to the arts, community engagement, and arts accessibility
    • Visionary thinker with experience in strategic planning and program development
    • Strong fundraising and donor relations experience, including knowledge of grant writing and reporting
    • Fiscal management and responsibility
    • Collaborative and inclusive management style, with experience hiring and supervising staff and engaging boards
    • Excellent communication and public and written speaking skills
    • Attention to detail and organization
    • Familiarity with and commitment to Charleston, WV and the broader regional arts landscape is a plus!

    DUTIES OF FESTIVALL’S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    The Executive Director is a unique role that requires professionalism, vision, and leadership. The Executive Director reports to the President of the FestivALL Board of Directors and works in collaboration with staff to carry out the mission of the organization. The role is responsible for the following primary areas of activity:

    Vision & Leadership: Serve as a collaborative and inclusive team leader with strong artistic vision and purpose, including:

    • Collaborating with Board and staff to implement, track, and report on strategic planning goals
    • Providing guidance and vision on future programming, development, marketing, organization, and financial opportunities, direction, and logistics
    • Strategizing with the local arts community to determine how to best serve our mission, while working as a collaborative partner within the greater arts landscape
    • Providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to FestivALL staff
    • Continuously assessing staff needs, opportunities for support, and ways to continue building a strong staff culture

    Organizational Management & Administration: Provide internal organizational leadership on all elements of board collaboration, organizational operations, and financial management, including:

    • Providing oversight and guidance to the organization’s budgeting & financial management in collaboration with

    the Board Treasurer, staff, and partnering accounting firm

    • Maintaining and strengthening relationships with individual board members
    • Coordinating Board committee meetings and priorities in partnership with staff and committee chairs
    • Collaborating with the Board President for monthly Board meeting agendas and priorities
    • Working with the Board to maintain Board recruitment goals and terms
    • Executing all contracts and agreements on behalf of the organization
    • Ensuring quality and effective systems are in place (technology, files, CRM, etc.)
    • Hiring and evaluating staff

    Fundraising and Donor Relations: In collaboration with new Development staff as well as the Board of Directors, ensure that annual funding is secured, and set and implement a plan for future growth, including:

    • Leading the development of new large-scale funding opportunities through grants, sponsors, and donors
    • Maintaining regular communication, engagement, and relationship building with existing funders
    • Implementing new outreach, relationship building and engagement with potential future funders
    • Regularly supporting funder events, activities and opportunities
    • Maintaining an annual funding application calendar, including implementation, tracking and reporting needs
    • Reviewing and approving completed grant applications and reporting materials

    Partnership Engagement and Communications: In collaboration with Marketing & Productions staff, maintain artistic quality and uniqueness through partnerships, programming, and communications, including:

    • Acting as the official spokesperson with assistance from Board and staff as appropriate
    • Cultivating clear and purposeful partnerships with local arts, business, and community youth organizations
    • Development and coordinating media partnerships
    • Providing leadership and support for the overall marketing and communications strategy, including but not limited to(print, web, radio, television, digital, social, etc.
