    An award-winning nonprofit book publisher located in NYC’s Wall Street area, The New Press has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Development Assistant or Associate to be a key part of our development team.

    Job Summary: The grants manager supports the organization’s foundation fundraising efforts.The grants manager is a key member of the development team, providing support to several senior front-line fundraisers, and managing our prospecting, application and reporting portfolio.

    Responsibilities

    • Help execute The New Press’s foundation fundraising plan in support of the organization’s contributed revenue goal; maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders.
    • Write and coordinate foundation proposals, in conjunction with other members of the fundraising team and editorial staff, for specific book projects as well as general operating support.
    • Report on all foundation grants in a thorough and timely fashion and work closely with Accounting Manager on financial reporting.
    • Work with the CDO to develop, manage, and track foundation budgets and expenses.
    • Identify, research, and cultivate new and lapsed foundation donors for unrestricted and restricted support.
    • In collaboration with the Development Associate, coordinate, prepare for, and potentially attend (as appropriate) meetings with foundation staff with the Executive Director, or CDO
    • Other responsibilities include budget reconciling with finance, drafting case studies, and other responsibilities as needed.

    Required Skills/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, effectively manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines.
    • Proven track record with proposal writing for foundation funders (note that The New Press does not have any government grants, and that form of grant writing experience will not be relevant here).
    • Proficiency with fundraising techniques, strategies, and sources.
    • Knowledge and familiarity with prospect research techniques.
    • Experience with budget development and monitoring finances with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Ability to hold in confidence information concerning the organization’s strategic, philanthropic, and financial goals and priorities.
    • Ability to identify ways to match the programs, books, and activities of The New Press with potential foundation funders; identify proactive and responsive strategies for engaging (and partnering as appropriate) with program officers in ways that address foundation priorities and goals.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, diplomacy, discretion, attention to detail, pro-activeness, and a high energy level.
