The Spiritual Education of Children and Youth Specialist will work with our Fellowship Minister and Board of Directors to set goals and deliver a children’s religious education program on Sunday mornings and beyond.
Qualifications
A love for work with children and youth, and an ability to connect to children and families with a warm, non-anxious presence.
Experience in working with children and youth.
Strong organizational skills, and ability to coordinate volunteers effectively.
Creativity and the ability to develop innovative and enjoyable activities for children and families.
Alignment with Unitarian Universalist values and willingness to learn more about Unitarian Universalist history, polity, sources and principles.
Criminal background check required.
Responsibilities
Assist in creating a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for children and families.
Greet and meet visiting parents and children on Sunday mornings.
Offer childcare and activities aligned with Unitarian philosophy and values for children and youth on Sundays (September-June) from 10:00am-1:00pm, and at other events centered on children and families throughout the year.
Recruit and coordinate schedules of Fellowship volunteers to ensure that all programs for children and youth are supervised at all times by at least two unrelated adults.
Coordinate and maintain files related to background checks for all volunteers working with children and youth.
Maintain files related to program development and participant safety.
Assist in planning and leading a brief story or talk for children that occurs during each Sunday Service.
Attend conferences and workshops and continue professional development as possible.
Participate in planning and leading multi generational worship services with the minister.
This is a 10-month a year position. July and August are off.
7.5 Hours a week (3.5 hours on-site on Sunday mornings, 4 hours during the week on a flexible schedule, usually home-based)
Vacation provisions will be as stipulated in employment standards legislation (4% vacation pay increasing to 6% after 5 consecutive years employment).
5% of salary towards RRSP, paid quarterly.
$900 annual reimbursement for professional development/continuing education.
