    Position Summary:

    The Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing clinical care, ensuring quality standards, and providing training and support to staff serving individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). This role ensures that nursing practices are compliant with applicable state and federal regulations, enhances staff competence through education, and supports best practices in health care delivery to optimize the health, dignity, and quality of life of the people we serve.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    Clinical Oversight & Quality Assurance

      • Monitor and evaluate the delivery of nursing and health-related services within InCommunity’s IDD programs to ensure compliance with care plans, medication administration, treatment protocols, and safety standards.
      • Conduct nursing assessments, audits, and reviews (medical charts, medication records, incident reports) to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks.
      • Collaborate with attending physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and other clinical professionals to ensure coordinated care.
      • Oversee medication management, including policies and procedures, ensuring proper storage, administration, documentation, and audit compliance.
      • Be available for consultation/advice to staff on complex health issues, clinical emergencies, and care coordination.

    Training & Staff Development

      • Design, deliver, and evaluate training programs for direct care staff, licensed practical nurses, and other relevant personnel on topics such as:
      • • Medication administration & safety
      • • Infection control & hygiene practices
      • • Recognition and response to changes in health status
      • • Behavior-related health issues common in the IDD population
      • • Emergency procedures & first aid
      • • Person-centered care and health promotion
      • Develop orientation curricula for new staff and continuous education sessions (in-service) to maintain clinical competency and compliance with licensing/certification requirements.
      • Mentor and coach staff on implementing best practices, supporting professional growth, and ensuring consistency and fidelity to care standards.

    Policy & Regulatory Compliance

      • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, licensure requirements (Georgia Board of Nursing, Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities, etc.) that affect IDD service delivery.
      • Develop, review, and update nursing policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
      • Assist with preparing for audits, licensing reviews, and accreditation activities.

    Leadership & Collaboration

      • Serve as a clinical resource and leader for other nurses, LPNs, direct support professionals, and management.
      • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure integrated care planning and to address complex clinical or behavioral health issues.
      • Drive quality improvement initiatives; collect and analyze data on clinical outcomes, incidents, and training effectiveness; make recommendations and implement changes.

    Education, Certifications & Experience Requirements

    • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
    • BSN degree preferred; ADN acceptable with significant relevant experience.
    • Certifications such as CPR / Basic Life Support required; Advanced certifications (e.g., in IDD care, medication administration, etc.) strongly preferred.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 1-2 years working directly in IDD or similar settings (residential, developmental disabilities, behavioral health).
    • Valid Georgia driver’s license and personal automobile liability insurance

    Work Environment & Physical Demands

    • Moderate noise level typical of office or program setting.
    • Typical physical requirements including moving personal belongings, light equipment, materials to and from meeting locations, etc.
    • Expected to be on call 24/7 unless other arrangements are made ahead of time.
    • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    • This is a salaried, exempt position that requires flexibility. Standard office hours are expected, but the role will require visits to community homes, attendance at evening/weekend team meetings, and participation in an on-call rotation.
    • Work is performed in both an office environment and in community-based homes.

    Travel Required

    This position requires 90% travel.
