Nourishing Bethesda (NB) is a growing nonprofit dedicated to combating food insecurity in the Bethesda area. Since 2020, we’ve expanded from serving 100 families to supporting more than 2,500 families annually across 12 distribution sites, providing over half a million pounds of food. Our work goes beyond food — we build community and connect individuals and families to resources that support long-term stability. Position Summary:
NB is seeking a full-time Development & Community Outreach Manager to lead fundraising efforts and build strong relationships with donors, partners, and the community. This role works closely with a five-person collaborative staff, offering the opportunity to wear many hats and make a meaningful impact across the organization. The position will develop and execute an annual fundraising plan in partnership with leadership, securing support through individual giving, grants, partnerships, and events, while serving as a visible ambassador for NB. Community outreach focuses on relationship-building in support of fundraising and long-term sustainability. Key Responsibilities:
Development & Fundraising
- Lead prospecting efforts to identify, pursue, and cultivate new donors, corporate partners, sponsors, and community groups aligned with NB’s mission
- Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan in partnership with NB leadership
- Perform hands-on administrative fundraising functions, including depositing donor checks and recording gifts in Network for Good
- Manage donor acknowledgments, stewardship, and ongoing engagement
- Conduct prospect research and maintain accurate donor records using Network for Good
- Track fundraising progress and prepare development reports as needed
- Present development updates to the development committee and report weekly on leadership zoom meetings
- Support the grant application process
Community Outreach
- Represent Nourishing Bethesda at community events, donor gatherings, and partner meetings
- Speak to Volunteer Groups both on and off-site about NB’s work in a compelling way
- Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, businesses, and community stakeholders
- Support donor and volunteer outreach tied to fundraising initiatives
- Participate in on-site programming to remain connected to NB’s mission and community presence
Events & Operations
- Plan and coordinate fundraising events and donor engagement activities
- Manage timelines, logistics, and follow-up related to development events
- Ensure accurate gift processing and confidentiality of donor information
- Collaborate closely with staff, leadership, and volunteers to execute development priorities
What We’re Looking For:
- Undergraduate degree and 3-5 years of experience in development or fundraising (nonprofit experience preferred)
- Experience with Network for Good donor database (or similar CRM)
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and steward donors, corporate sponsors, and volunteers; ability to represent Nourishing Bethesda in a positive, knowledgeable, and professional manner
- Strong communicator at all levels and settings; excellent writing skills in email, newsletters, and donor campaigns, including high-level proofreading
- Coordinate and manage activities associated with event planning in support of donor relations
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion
- Passion for advancing NB’s mission through innovative fundraising strategies
Schedule and Location:
- Hybrid role based in Bethesda, MD; Onsite at least three (3) days per week
- Required on-site presence every Thursday evening from 4:00–8:00 PM
- Additional onsite or evening hours may be required for special events
