    Role and Responsibilities

    Shabbat Services

    The Bet Mishpachah Facilities Assistant will be responsible for setting up and breaking down weekly Shabbat Services each Friday night and on the Second and Fourth Saturdays of the month held at the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center (EDCJCC) near Dupont Circle. Responsibilities include:

      Technology: Ensuring that podium microphones and the projector screen are set up for services and properly working, and serving as the in-person Zoom technical support for services, and ensuring that the Zoom meeting starts on time.

        Event Set Up: Working with the staff of the EDCJCC to make sure that both Friday night services and Saturday morning services are properly set up. Ensuring that all religious objects are in their proper place for services.

          Oneg and Kiddush Lunch Set up: Setting up the Friday Oneg (after-services social hour) and Saturday morning Kiddush lunch (after-services lunch). Preparing food appropriately on serving trays and dressing the Oneg/Kiddush tables with tablecloths. After Shabbat Services are completed, the Facilities Assistant will be responsible for the cleanup of the Oneg, the storage of unused food in the Bet Mishpachah refrigerator, and the breakdown of the set up including returning the ark, religious books, bimah (podium), and other items to the Bet Mishpachah storage closet.

            Inventory: Responsible for weekly inventory of items in the storage room including ensuring that enough food is available for Onegs and Kiddush Lunches.

              Serve as a logistical support staff for the Board Member on Duty.

              High Holy Days

              The Facilities Assistant will be responsible for numerous tasks such as, but not limited to, setting up multiple religious services during the High Holy Days, working with the Director of Operations, and Director of Religious Affairs to ensure that all religious items are properly set up for services, ensuring all publications, and books are available for members and guests, and the proper setting up the Onegs and Break the Fast (traditional meal following services on the Yom Kippur holiday).

              Our ideal Facilities Assistant will have the following skills/abilities:

              • Experience with managing events and programs.
              • Comfortable receiving and responding to feedback.
              • Ability to be friendly and welcoming to congregation members.
              • Ability to work independently and be proactive with moderate supervision.
              • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
              • Ability to problem-solve.
              • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
              • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment and under stress.
              • Able to respond promptly to calls, emails, or text messages.
              • Comfortable with A/V, computer, and streaming technology, including Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets), Zoom, and microphones. Training will be provided.

              The position is:

              • Hourly, approximately up to 14 hours a week. Hours will increase during the High Holy Day season.
              • Compensation is $20 per hour.
              • This position will report to the Executive Director and often interface with members of the Board of Directors including the Director of Operations and the Director of Religious Affairs.
