The Survivor Support and Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to coordinate and implement Awake’s programs for those who have experienced sexual abuse by Catholic leaders, with other general duties as needed by the organization. This is a 25-30 hour per week position that offers a unique opportunity to invest in relationships, coordinate transformative programs, and make a real difference in the lives of abuse survivors.
About Awake
Awake is a community of abuse survivors, concerned Catholics, and allies responding to the wounds of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Our mission is to awaken our community to the full reality of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, work for transformation, and foster healing for all who have been wounded. Awake is a community that strives to be compassionate, survivor-centered, faithful, welcoming, humble, courageous, and hopeful.
Awake has grown rapidly since our founding in Milwaukee in August 2019, and we are now a respected national nonprofit organization with plans to continue expanding our impact. We currently have three staff members (a full-time Executive Director, full-time Associate Director, and part-time Communications and Events Specialist) as well as many committed volunteers serving on our Board of Directors, Leadership Team, Survivor Advisory Panel, and in other roles. We are excited to add another staff member to our dynamic team to meet the growing demand for our services!
About This Position
This position builds on the important work of our previous Survivor Care Coordinator, who concluded her time with Awake in November 2025. The role has been expanded with additional responsibilities and hours to better serve our growing community of survivors.
This fulfilling role would be a perfect fit for someone who has a heart for service, a deep commitment to accompanying those who are suffering, and a desire to empower survivors to share their voices and gifts. This position focuses on non-clinical, relational support through pastoral care and accompaniment, rather than mental health or therapeutic services. Responsibilities include:
This is a fully remote position, open to candidates throughout the United States. The schedule is flexible, although evening meetings and occasional weekend hours are required. The Survivor Support and Engagement Coordinator will travel to Milwaukee for our annual Leadership Gathering (one Saturday in late May) and two weekend survivor retreats (one in July and one in August), as well as representing Awake at one conference per year.
