    Descripción

The Survivor Support and Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to coordinate and implement Awake’s programs for those who have experienced sexual abuse by Catholic leaders, with other general duties as needed by the organization. This is a 25-30 hour per week position that offers a unique opportunity to invest in relationships, coordinate transformative programs, and make a real difference in the lives of abuse survivors.

    About Awake

Awake is a community of abuse survivors, concerned Catholics, and allies responding to the wounds of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Our mission is to awaken our community to the full reality of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, work for transformation, and foster healing for all who have been wounded. Awake is a community that strives to be compassionate, survivor-centered, faithful, welcoming, humble, courageous, and hopeful.

Awake has grown rapidly since our founding in Milwaukee in August 2019, and we are now a respected national nonprofit organization with plans to continue expanding our impact. We currently have three staff members (a full-time Executive Director, full-time Associate Director, and part-time Communications and Events Specialist) as well as many committed volunteers serving on our Board of Directors, Leadership Team, Survivor Advisory Panel, and in other roles. We are excited to add another staff member to our dynamic team to meet the growing demand for our services!

    About This Position

This position builds on the important work of our previous Survivor Care Coordinator, who concluded her time with Awake in November 2025. The role has been expanded with additional responsibilities and hours to better serve our growing community of survivors.

This fulfilling role would be a perfect fit for someone who has a heart for service, a deep commitment to accompanying those who are suffering, and a desire to empower survivors to share their voices and gifts. This position focuses on non-clinical, relational support through pastoral care and accompaniment, rather than mental health or therapeutic services. Responsibilities include:

    • Welcoming new survivors to the Awake community through individual welcome calls
    • Coordinating all aspects of Survivor Circles, including registration, communication, planning with the Survivor Circle Team, and facilitating some circles as needed
    • Overseeing The Well, Awake’s community forum for survivors
    • Assisting with planning and facilitation of the two annual survivor retreats
    • Providing occasional individual support to survivors in our community when needed
    • Coordinating survivor participation in Bridge Dialogues, the Survivor Advisory Panel, and Survivor Stories on the Awake blog
    • Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers to serve in Awake’s survivor ministries
    • Directing the Encourager Ministry in providing timely support to individual survivors
    • Conducting proactive outreach to survivors in the broader community

This is a fully remote position, open to candidates throughout the United States. The schedule is flexible, although evening meetings and occasional weekend hours are required. The Survivor Support and Engagement Coordinator will travel to Milwaukee for our annual Leadership Gathering (one Saturday in late May) and two weekend survivor retreats (one in July and one in August), as well as representing Awake at one conference per year.

    Compensation and Benefits

    • This part-time, non-exempt position is compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.
    • Hours may vary from week to week depending on organizational needs but will average 25-30 hours per week. Additional hours will be required for retreat weekends.
    • This position offers 10 paid holidays and additional paid time off, prorated for the part-time role.
    • In keeping with our core values, Awake intentionally nurtures a culture of collaboration and mutual respect at all levels of the organization. As a staff member, you will be part of a healthy, collaborative team, and your voice, gifts, and needs will be honored and supported.

    What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is warm, compassionate, trauma-sensitive, patient, and service-oriented, with a strong personal commitment to the mission and values of Awake. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. This role calls for strong administrative and organizational skills to manage communications, documentation, and program logistics, as well as a solid understanding of Catholic practices, culture, and spirituality. Because of the sensitive and psychologically demanding nature of this work, candidates should be emotionally grounded and committed to healthy boundaries, self-care, and practices that support long-term balance and resilience.

We would value a professional or volunteer background in any of these fields:

    • Victim/survivor support or advocacy
    • Pastoral care or chaplaincy
    • Mental health or social work
    • Catholic ministry
    • Trauma-informed care

We would also be interested in experience in these areas:

    • Volunteer coordination
    • Small group facilitation
    • Program development
    • Spanish fluency

    How to Apply

Please submit your resume and cover letter through this form: Survivor Support and Engagement Coordinator Application.

We are committed to a respectful hiring process that honors the dignity of each candidate. We will be speaking with candidates on a rolling basis, with initial Zoom interviews to be conducted beginning January 19. The position will begin on a mutually agreeable date in March.
