    (Seasonal – Full Time and Part Time Positions Available)

    Riverside Park Conservancy (RPC) is a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the City of New York to restore, maintain, and improve Riverside Park and its neighboring waterfront parks for all New Yorkers. Stretching for six miles along the Hudson River, the park provides essential open space, recreation, and community connection for residents of Manhattan’s West Side and beyond.

    Position Summary

    Riverside Park Conservancy is seeking an enthusiastic and outgoing individual for this new position based at our new solar-powered, grid-independent, eco-friendly Visitor Information Center, adjacent to the Oscar Hijuelos Red Clay Tennis Courts in Riverside Park at 96th Street.

    The Tennis Community Associate is a seasonal, front-facing role that serves as the primary point of welcome, information and customer service for tennis players, tennis program participants, park visitors and volunteers. The Tennis Community Associate will ensure that all tennis players are properly checked in and registered to play on the courts. They will also provide helpful information to park visitors about Riverside Park Conservancy programming, volunteer opportunities, and park amenities.

    This position reports to the Director of Riverside Tennis.

    Work Schedule and Duration

    • Seasonal: April (flexible start date) – November 2026; exact dates depend on season and weather.
    • Staff schedules fall within a general coverage window and may include early mornings, daytime, evening and/or weekend hours.
    • Hours will steadily increase in the Spring as daylight and court usage increases and gradually reduce in the fall as daylight shortens and court usage declines.
    • Scheduled shifts may be adjusted or canceled due to inclement weather.
    • Holiday work is expected during peak season; alternate days off will be provided for full time positions.

    Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

    • Serve as a welcoming and professional presence for all tennis players, park visitors, volunteers, and program participants.
    • Verify permits and registration for all tennis players and collect applicable single-play fees.
    • Support the orderly flow of walk-on players, reservation holders, and program participants.
    • Provide clear and timely communication to the Director and Assistant Director of Riverside Tennis, and RPC’s ballfield operations staff regarding court conditions and weather.
    • Share information about the Conservancy’s free public programming, environmental initiatives, and volunteer opportunities.
    • Display and distribute informational materials.
    • Maintain an on-site presence at the tennis courts, supporting both tennis and non-tennis community events.
    • Provide directional and wayfinding assistance and ensure that all visitors understand Riverside Park’s rules and regulations.
    • Engage in positive visitor interactions that build awareness of Riverside Park Conservancy and its mission.
    • Administer merchandise sales (souvenirs, apparel, water, tennis balls, etc) using Square Point of Sales platform; record all sales in a daily log.
    • Maintain and secure inventory and equipment.
    • Collect public satisfaction survey data on tennis and park activities.
    • Set-up and break-down various equipment, including folding tables and pop-up tents.
    • Maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming appearance of the tennis facility and Visitor Information Center, including:
      • Minor trash pickup and tidying
      • Monitoring and re-stocking porta-potties as needed
      • Minor clay court recovery needs after a rainstorm, as directed by supervisor.
    • Perform light administrative duties as needed.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Relevant experience in community outreach/engagement, or in customer service capacity at a community center, arts facility, or public park setting.
    • Strong comfort handling cash and point-of-sale systems (Square experience is a plus) and technology platforms in general.

    Skills/Abilities

    • A passion for parks and community-focused work.
    • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain rules, schedules, and expectations to the public.
    • Outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic demeanor.
    • Comfortable with communicating and enforcing park and tennis rules and regulations when required.
    • Comfortable speaking with a wide range of visitors and volunteers.
    • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Ability to stay calm and solution-oriented during busy or high-traffic periods.
    • Knowledge of tennis rules and play a plus; willingness to learn required.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Must be able to work assigned shifts that may include early mornings (as early as 6:30 AM) or evenings (ending as late as 8:30 PM), weekends, and/or holidays during peak season.
    • Able and willing to speak to members of the public for much of work shift.
    • Able to lift up to 40 pounds with proper equipment.

    Compensation: $23-25 per hour.
