A partner organization to MLK Labor is seeking to hire a Worker Organizer position with commitment and experience in building worker power, to be filled as soon as possible. Based in Seattle, WA. If you would like to learn more before applying, please email the contact at the bottom of this post and include your phone number.

As an organization we believe we are in the midst of three intersecting global crises: 1) The climate emergency is worsening droughts, wildfires, and other extreme weather events at a scale that threatens the very foundations of societal stability; 2) Exponential AI breakthroughs pose an existential threat to jobs and the economy and risk further concentrating wealth and accelerating inequality if left unchecked; 3) In the US, we are witnessing democratic erosion and threats to our longstanding democratic institutions, mirroring trends towards authoritarianism across the globe.

Big Tech has an outsized role at the intersection of these existential crises and the unchecked power of Big Tech’s dominance gives its executives immense power to impact climate pollution, AI development, workers’ rights, and normalizing fascism.

    Role Overview:

We are looking for a motivated, flexible, and collaborative Worker Organizer to help shape and execute our organizing strategy in Seattle. You will work directly with members of our organization and supporters to drive campaigns, develop leadership, and strengthen worker power. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of member organizing, building leadership, and implementing successful campaigns.

As an organization, we are deeply committed to anti-racism—not only as a core value but as a necessary strategy for building worker power. We recognize the importance of investing in the recruitment, development, and leadership of the majority-BIPOC tech workforce and ensuring our membership and leadership reflect this commitment. We know this requires intentionality, resources, and long-term investment.

    Required Skills + Experience

    • Minimum 5 years of field organizing experience, with a strong focus on member development, mobilization, developing a committee of leaders, overcoming management anti-union campaigns, and moving workers into action.
    • Proven ability to conduct one-on-one meetings, lead in-person committee meetings, and engage with members via phone and video calls to build strong relationships and drive action.
    • Demonstrated experience working with groups to set and achieve measurable goals and outcomes, co-creating campaigns are both impactful and sustainable.
    • Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to assess situations, develop effective plans, and adapt to evolving circumstances.
    • A proven track record of incorporating anti-racism and anti-oppression into your organizing, particularly in mentoring and developing BIPOC leaders.
    • Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of initiative, capable of working independently and delivering results while managing multiple projects.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in office software such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, and databases; ability to quickly learn new tools and platforms as needed.
    • Willingness to take on temporary assignments and work extended hours as necessary to meet campaign deadlines and organizational needs.

    Compensation:

Salary: $100,000/year. Strong benefits package, including health, dental and vision insurance, retirement fund and unlimited PTO. Ability to work from home and occasionally remotely.
