    Heading Home's mission is to end homelessness in Greater Boston by providing a supported pathway to self-sufficiency that begins with a home, together with critical services such as life skills, financial literacy, and job training.

    Founded in 1974, Heading Home is a leading provider of housing and support services for extremely low-income individuals and families currently or formerly experiencing homelessness in Greater Boston. For nearly 50 years, we have successfully helped thousands of people end their homelessness.

    As an agency, our services are diverse; we provide emergency, transitional, and permanent housing, and support services, to extremely low-income individuals and families currently or formerly experiencing homelessness.

    We are proud to share that for 17 years running, Heading Home's permanent housing retention rates have been 90%+. Last year, 97% of Heading Home clients remained housed after one year.

    Job Title: Development Associate, Operations and Events

    Reports To: Director of Major Gifts

    Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

    Location: Boston, MA

    Hourly Rate: $26.52 - $27.58

    Responsibilities

    Development Operations:

    • Manage Heading Home’s donation entry process: processing gifts daily, creating gift reports, managing pledges, maintaining donation pages, managing peer-to-peer fundraising pages and third-party processors, and working closely with the Finance team to reconcile monthly revenue totals
    • Become a subject matter expert on our constituent database (Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge/NXT), improving donor engagement by conducting and entering research, maintaining constituent records, and identifying prospects

    Events:

    • Manage event logistics leading up to, during, and after 4 Heading Home events annually, including developing project plans, ensuring the team meets all deadlines, overseeing the full registration process, coordinating day-of logistics, and providing on-site support
    • Liaise with leadership and event committees, supporting their solicitations by attending all meetings, providing collateral, and distributing regular revenue updates
    • Support event sponsors by overseeing event invitations, sending invoices/pledge reminders, and tracking stewardship activities
    • Produce post-event summaries reporting event statistics, measuring efficacy, comparing year-over-year outcomes, and assessing ROI

    Team Support:

    • Assist with donor communications by creating mailing lists for appeals, annual reports, newsletters, event invitations, and other mailings throughout the year
    • Activate and maintain relationships with vendor partners to support mailings, events, and other donor activities
    • Participate in donor cultivation by compiling marketing materials for external meetings and supporting volunteer engagements, as needed

    Experience and Skills Required

    • BA required with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit organizations; development experience preferred
    • Impeccable attention to detail and exceptional time management, ability to manage multiple tasks, define and set priorities, and problem-solve
    • Excellent fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and experience working with development/CRM databases; knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge a plus
    • Proven initiator with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
    • Affinity for providing excellent customer service, respectful donor engagement, and anticipating the needs of the team
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization
    • Genuine curiosity about people and their motivations
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of client and donor information
    • Must be able to work off hours as needed with an aptitude for teamwork
