    Overview

    Chapter 510 is seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented Communications Coordinator to support the execution of our 2025–2026 communications strategy.

    This role is ideal for a skilled communicator who understands the nuances of nonprofit communications and can manage content across platforms, engage our community, and amplify our message through thoughtful storytelling and smart outreach. Reporting to the Creative Director, the

    Communications Coordinator will create content, manage our digital presence, oversee day-to-day communications, and help us tell the story of our work with clarity, creativity, and consistency.

    Key Responsibilities

    Content Strategy, Creation & Management

    • Create and manage a comprehensive content calendar across all communication platforms (social media, email, website, in-person assets).
    • Write, edit, and schedule posts across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, (2–3x/week per platform).
    • Design branded visuals and collateral (e.g., flyers, social graphics, signage) using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Build and send email newsletters through Mailchimp, including layout, segmentation, and analytics.
    • Collect and organize all media (photos, video, quotes) from live events and partner engagements.

    Audience Engagement & Storytelling

    • Collaborate with staff to collect stories, photos, and quotes that alignwith key messaging and strategic goals.
    • Engage followers and community members by responding to comments, messages, and tags.
    • Elevate youth voices and stories that reflect the organization’s mission and impact.

    Brand Visibility & Media Amplification

    • Seek out earned media opportunities, including podcast interviews, press placements, and story pitching aligned with editorial calendars.
    • Identify and maintain relationships with influencers, artists, and local culture-makers who align with Chapter 510’s mission.
    • Help oversee paid advertising strategy (social media, local print, digital ads) and track ROI.
    • Coordinate marketing collateral for events and rentals, including signage, slide decks, printed materials, and swag.

    Measurement & Reporting

    • Track and report on key communications metrics: social reach/engagement, newsletter performance, follower growth, etc.
    • Make data-informed recommendations to improve engagement and storytelling effectiveness.

    Event Coordination & Community Engagement

    • Support the planning and execution of audience-building and fundraising events, including:
    • Coordinating event logistics such as catering, parking, rentals, and venue setup
    • Providing day-of-event support, including setup and breakdown
    • Coordinate 2–4 community tabling opportunities per year by:
      • Identifying and securing relevant tabling events
      • Preparing and organizing outreach materials
      • Attending and representing the organization at events, as needed

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years experience in communications, social media management, content creation, or nonprofit marketing
    • Excellent writer with a strong sense of voice, tone, and narrative
    • Experience with content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), email platforms (Mailchimp), and social media schedulers (Hootsuite).
    • Strong project management and time management skills
    • Familiarity with community-centered, equity-driven storytelling practices
    • Experience in the arts, youth development, or Oakland-based nonprofits a plus
    • Basic photo/video editing or audio/podcast production is a bonus
