IHI Therapy Center | LGBTQ+ Affirmative Care

    About IHI Therapy Center

The Institute for Human Identity (IHI) is New York’s premier LGBTQ+ psychotherapy center, nationally recognized for its leadership in affirmative, culturally responsive mental health care. Founded in the wake of a historic 1973 milestone—when IHI helped lead the removal of homosexuality from the DSM—we continue to advance a vision of therapy that honors identity, dignity, and self-determination.

At IHI, clinicians are part of a mission-driven community committed to healing that is free from pathologizing frameworks around gender, sexuality, culture, and identity.

    The Opportunity

We are seeking a part-time, fee-for-service psychotherapist to join our collaborative team of LGBTQ+-affirmative clinicians. This fully remote role is ideal for clinicians who are passionate about working with LGBTQ+ communities and who are looking for meaningful evening work within a supportive, values-aligned practice.

    • Caseload: Approximately 6-7 clients per week
    • Schedule: Evening availability required (5:00–9:00 PM ET)
    • Format: 100% remote / telehealth
    • Employment Type: Contract / Freelance

    Who You’ll Work With

Our clients range in age from 18 to 70 and represent diverse identities, backgrounds, and life experiences. We are especially interested in clinicians with experience in:

    • LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming communities
    • Communities of color and multicultural populations
    • Trauma and grief
    • Anxiety and phobias
    • Relationship and attachment concerns
    • Identity development and self-acceptance
    • Substance use and harm reduction
    • Sexual compulsivity
    • Eating disorders and body image concerns

    Why Clinicians Choose IHI

    • Competitive compensation: $45–$57 per session, based on licensure
      • Higher rates for intakes, couples, and group work
    • Weekly clinical supervision provided by experienced IHI supervisors
    • Ongoing training and professional development in LGBTQ+-affirmative and culturally responsive care
    • A collegial, mission-driven environment that values clinician voice, growth, and community engagement
    • Opportunities to contribute beyond individual therapy, including support groups and program development

    Qualifications

    • Licensed or Limited Permit clinician (LMHC, LCSW, LMSW, or Psychologist)
    • Master’s degree required
    • Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ and GNC communities
    • Experience working with culturally diverse populations
    • Strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and adherence to ethical and organizational standards
    • Interest in being an engaged member of the IHI community
    • Alignment with IHI’s mission, values, and history

    • People of color
    • LGBTQ+ individuals
    • Bilingual and bicultural clinicians
    • Native and Indigenous people
